WSU? SMU?

Hi, here in Kansas we have WSU (Wichita State University), so of course this story caught my attention.

I'm not sure the school is WSU. The story mentions SMU. A school in Texas. Not that it really matters, but I understand the school's reservations. People are suing people everyday over the most senseless things. I don't support their decision in any way, but I understand why.

The question is, for me anyway, is what to do to change the way the world views people such as o...

Sleeping

Hi
I don't have a pm but someone I love does and I am trying to understand things. Did anyone ever experience the fear of dying while they slept and if so how did you learn to cope with that. I just want to learn as much as I can from others so I can better understand what is is like to have pm and what worries come with one and what to say and when.
Thanks

Cabg Patch...

In my case, things are kind of an experiment. I think it's a mutual feeling between my docs and I. I have had arrhythmias for 8 years, had 3 ablations - the last one my phrenic nerve was froze with a -82 degree cryoblation cath, and I have tried every medication known to man. My cardiologist suggested pacemaker with beta-blocker therapy. I was headed for an AV Node Ablation if the Tikosyn that I was trying didn't work. Well, after the 2nd day of Tikosyn, I was on the lowest dose with a long QT,...

Jokes are flying here

The jokes are flying here after my PM implant.

Frankenstein jokes are plentiful and a buddy called my cell phone and asked for Col. Steve Austin. I responded with "I hope this doesn't actually cost 6 million dollars"

My first checkup

Had my first device interrogation today, 1 week after surgery. they said I was A pacing at 51% and V pacing only a small amount. apparently my ventricle doesn't respond to the natural signals right away so the pacer gets it going. then it seems to catch up and respond properly so the pacer stops V pacing.

They said that is good because it could add years to the battery life.

forgive me if my terminology is not correct but I am a PM newbie.

so far so good,

My first bike ride

I was cleared to ride my bike today at my checkup (on road only). So I raced home got my gear on and WOW what an incredible difference.

Before the PM it was difficult to get my heart rate above 100 and nearly impossible to get to 130.

Now on my first bike ride with my new PM I was able to break 100 bpm easy, found a nice cruising speed at 120 bpm and 132bpm. It even got up to 160 climbing a hill, which I haven't seen all year long riding 90 -120 miles a week.

Pranks

Hi everyone!

I work at a hospital with kids and we were playing pranks on the nurses and parents and one of the kids had those fake pens that when you click it,it shocks you. I did it a couple times and didn't think twice about it until someone else said "Wow that hurts, better not let anyone with a pacemaker use it!" He didn't know I have one and I didn't say anything but I hadn't thought about that at all. Does anyone know if those shocking toys do anything bad? I've had my pacemake...

Need your advice

Hi
I don't have a pacemaker myself but someone I love does. He has had it two years and he is 38 and it has been hard for him to except. I don't know what to say to him when he thinks about dying and having the pacemaker put in and how it bothers him sometimes. I want to learn more about how it feels to have one and what I can say to encourage him or ease his grief. We have known each other for a while and having this between has caused some seperation in our relationship. I just want to be...

My first check-up

Hi there everyone:
Hope that everyone here is doing fine. Seems like I had a couple of days that I don't feel as depressed as I was earlier.
Hope that it was from the shock of having my surgery.
Want to ask you another question. I am going to see my cardi. on friday, the 12th of Sept. which is a couple days away. Need some information. I know very little about how my device is set.
All I know is that one setting is at 120/130 whatever that means. Cardi said not to use my exce...

sorry if i offend any one

Hi and God bless all of you.
I just wanted to say that i apologize if i have offended any one here. I know at the beginning i was very negative with the experiences i had and of getting my pacemaker. I dont mean to be so negative or to have other people think that pacemakers are bad. Pacemakers are actually life savers and i know they improve the quality of life of many people. I guess i have been a bit revelious because i have not had any improvements in my life since i got it and it was...

WSU WHY ARE YOU AGAINST PACEMAKERS!

Below is a link for a CNN story. WSU will not allow a cheerleader to cheer because of her pm! Even with a doctors note.

Pericardial effusion

My daughter had her pace maker implanted this summer. Initially the surgery went well. It was afterwards that complications arose. She stayed one night in the ICU after her surgery. (she has other health issues) She was sent home the next day. She was in extreme pain, she is only 7 and didn't complain at all, but I had to help her walk and move. Took her back and she ended up having pneumonia and pericarditis. Poor thing. So she was re-admitted and spent another night. We went home the next day....

POSTING PICTURES :p

Greetings everyone,
I would love to be able to put a name to all the wonderful pictures I see being posted. I am getting on in years and I know that I can seem a bit fussy, but I have no idea who "me" is or "me and.... my cousin.... dog..... cat... or nothing written at all. So please try to take some time to tell us a little about who you are... :-) I would love to be able to share how much I like your pictures and I am sure others would as well. :D
Thank you,

Second Check

Hi

Thought I would write to say how the second check went on the pacemaker. This is the first time the cardiologist took a print out. He said the pacemaker was working 1/3rd of the time, no percentage, but that sounded pretty good to me.

He also lowered the voltage to 1.5w so I do not feel the sensation in the stomach.

He has also turned the pacemaker down to 45 beats per minute as my base rate, and said that I could see how I go. Hopefully all will be well, if...

First pacer check, pacing at 37%

I was wondering for all ya'll out there who've had pacers for a long time, I got this question. I asked it before in one of my other posts but didn't really get an answer. At my first check-up, 1 week post implant, I was pacing at 37%. I was sort of surprised at that number, because it seemed kind of high. I guess I just wasn't expecting the pacer to pace that much, just once in a while. 37% sounds more like once in a while. It must mean that I must have really needed the pacer in the first plac...
