The Immediate Future of PMs

Anyone know of what, technologically, might be coming down the road as far as treating arrhythmias goes?

I'm looking forward to thumbnail-sized PMs that are barely there but can do everything current PMs do and then some.

Any word on the rendering of PMs--and even pharmaceuticals-- obsolete at some point and treating arrhythmias with some kind of laser surgery or something?

What 'miracles of science' do we have to look forward to?

Question

I have had my pm since June of 05. Since then I have noticed that while I am asleep, I involuntarily flex all my muscles at the same time I swear you could use me as scafolding and I clamp my jaw so tight I think I am breaking teeth. Its so bad I wake up. Never did it before the pm and after reading some stories about twitching from the pm....just wondering?

help

Hi everyone,
well I flew out to Ohio last week to see my cardio. I have a biotronik cylos PM and am still slowly learning about it. I love this site, but most of you have a different kind of PM so things get a little confusing for me.

The Cylos is supposed to detect a drop in BP. My BP is very low so I faint all the time. I found out this week that my BP is so low that 24 hours a day I amon the threshold of syncope. I just got my rate response/senor turned up. That means t...

Why I'm Here

As I've coped with my multiple coronary issues over the last 35 years I continue to be amazed that medicine - at least the part of the field dealing with heart arrhythmias is as much an art as it a science. I'm a PhD engineer so I'm used to dealing with realities I can measure and predict (yes within limits). The reality of our heart conditions seem to almost always be uncertain. When we add a piece of engineered hardware to that uncertain biological system, no wonder we seem to get results a...

Setting PM Upper Limit

At 7 weeks I'm doing great. (At 4 weeks I basically forgot I had a PM.) On my interrog. at 7 weeks, they reported that my dual pacer was pacing 75% upper and 0.1%(essentially 0) lower chamber. I'm on a BB (Inderal LA) for BP and an atrial arrythmia that I had before PM. The Inderal seems to have done the job. I still have PVC's, my Medtronic showed some 3000 in a 6 week period which is negligible. Luckily they are infrequent and when they do happen last only a few seconds. I made a good choice...

Medical Alert Bracelet

I know we were taking a poll for the medical alert bracelets......I did not want one of those klunky ID bracelets,so I took the advice of someone one this site and ordered one from Laurens Hope. I wanted something funky and fun so I ordered the mood bracelet....I just love it. It changes colors all the time it really is cool.So if you want something fun, I highly recommend ordering from them. I'm flying next week to Atlanta to see my Grandkids and wanted to make sure I had it in time. I ordered...

Some issues!

Before I ask my questions. Welcome to all the new Pacers on this club that I have not gotten to talk to yet. I hope and pray that your recovery is going well.

I have tried to avoid getting on lately as I have had a hard time facing things lately. I posted last week that I had been feeling very ill and thought I had the flu or something. That was not the case when I finally felt like I was passing out I decided to call in. I have PVC's non-stop my palpitations are very intense I ha...

Time To Move On

Hello People,

I truly appreciate all of the messages of support. I am sorry that you spent your valuable time in such way.

But as I look back on this after a somewhat sleepless night, I can see where not everyone in the world would appreciate the joke I posted. However, I’m at a loss to understand why anyone would give me such tongue lashing for the posting. I found that offensive. I think telling me you didn’t think it was funny and leave it there would have been suffi...

A V NODE ABLATION

Thank you for the comments on my request for A V Node ablation and pacemaker implant. Diagnosed with AFib in 2002 and had ablation 6 mos later. Did not help. Started on amiodorin in 2003 and 5 yrs later some of the side effects have begun to surface. The electrophysiolgist recommended the pacemaker and A V Node ablation. Had the implant 3 weeks ago and waiting for ablation. Have been able to control INR without difficulty. By the way, Medicare will soon begin to supply a home use INR ki...

Still short of breath

I have chronic a-fib/flutter. I have had an A/V node ablation and permanent pacemaker implanted in 1998. Since then, I have had to have it replaced in January 2003. Everything was going fine, until this past summer. I became short of breath, and it was getting worse and worse. I was hospitalized in Jan 2008, with dx of exacerbation of asthma. I was put on massive doses of prednisone, abx, and neb treatments. I did get better (was around cats, which I have a known allergy to.). But after 6...

Need someone to research!

OK, this is the reason I logged on tonight. It has not been a good day. Maybe some one can help. There was a death in the family .He was only 65. What I need answers about are my husband's and I best friend for about 25 years is a diabetic and has been on dialysis for about 10 years. He was told he needed a kidney transplant but said no to being put on the list. He since has had by-pass surgery and has been doing di...

Hi from sistermary7

Well, I went back to the ep doc today and found out some good news and some ok news ( no real bad news depending on how you look at it). My ep doc is very sharp and was already anticpating on what I was going to tell him my symptoms were, so he was ready for me. He stopped the pm and my hr dropped to 30. Nearly passed out and had the same s/s that I had when my hr was 280. He tried to change my mode and i did not tolerate it at all.He noted that I have an unusally high resting hr to begin with s...

Checkup yesterday

With the dust up going on, I almost forgot to thank heckboy and smitty for giving me suggestions for questions to ask at my PM check yesterday.

I got the information I wanted, and also learned the pacing in the lower chamber has dropped from 34% last year to 18% this year. A positive for me! :-) The pacing in my upper chamber has held at 0% for the past year as well.

Again, thanks to heckboy and smitty for your great suggestions. I truly appreciate it!

thanks to ElectricFrank

Thank you for the info on CHF and ventricular pacing. i do have my pacemaker rate response mode off and my thresholds have been re-adjusted to 50 - 170. Still, when I work out my rate seems to climb faster than it used to. My 2nd dgree block seemed to come on progressively over several years. i was diagnosed with RBB in 2000 (no big deal). then around 2003 i began having rate dependent brady. then it became less and less rate dependent and basically chronic. My medtronic pacer has done we...
