NCS & IST

Just over a year ago I had a pacemaker implanted because of NCS, now I have been diagnosed with IST Inappropriate sinus tachycardia. Until two years ago I was the picture of health ate right and exercised daily and my resting pulse rate for the last twenty years was approx 45 bpm. When i first started to feel faint & almost blacked out 21/2 years ago my Dr. sent me for a stress test. I ran on the tread mill for almost one hour before I reached the target rate to do the echo, I think some where a...

heart failure / ICD healing

I am almost 3 weeks post op from a bi-ventricular pacemaker/defibrillator. I was checked at the pacemaker clinic last week and they said everything is fine. However, I feel somewhat out of breath and my heart is racing a bit (up to low 100s) when I'm just walking around normally. I'm in heart failure, but this feels worse than it did before the ICD. Is this just a part of the healing process or do I need to call the dr again? I appreciate your thoughts.

atrial lead not working

'Just returned from my pacemaker clinic. I mentioned to the technition that I was feeling terribly fatigued, and perhaps she'd find the answer to my problem. She soon replied that the atrial lead to my bi- lead pacemaker, (the lead that did the work of pacing my heart when it needed it), is not functioning at all. It will need to be replaced. My question is: I live in a small town. The general surgeon can perform this type of surgery. However, I have no idea how serious this surgery is. Anothe...

ICD is gone

Well my hubby got rid of his icd the hard way. Sunday night, after waiting for 3 years, he had a heart transplant. He is doing well. He was sitting in a chair this morning for a few hours and ate a little jello and broth. Pray that he continues to improve.

fainting

I'm trying to figure out why I nearly passed out this morning. I've had my pm for 10 months now with no real physical issues. I'm not on any medication and I have always had normal bp in the past. I have been real anxious for a week and struggling with holding it together. This morning I woke up and was getting ready for work when I got real hot and sweaty and then had to rush to the bed before I went blank. I'm trying to decide if this passing out was caused by my pm or the anxiety. Has a...

pain at pm site

I am 4 months out from pm surgery. I recently started an intermediate yoga class, since I started I have had some chest pain and pain , not soreness on the right side of my pm where the leads attach. I've also noticed my collarbone is sore, and my pm seems to be working more than usual. Is this normal? I have an appointment Wednesday for a pacer check I am going to mention it when I go in. I don't want to seem like I'm overreacting. Sure would appreciate any info.

Thank You

I would just like to thank you all for your advise/support it has reassured me, alittle! This pacemaker is a St Jude Identy ADx DR 5380, are they known for short battery life?

The only thing now is that I am worried incase it is a damaged lead that is causing the pacemaker to work harder and therefore use battery life.

My leads are the ones put in 10yrs ago ( with 1st pacemaker), wont they have tissue around them or be inbedded to the side of my heart or vein?

Recalls

Does anyone else here have a recalled pacemaker? I ask because my new EP dr asked me if I had gotten any new correspondence about a possible lawsuit against Guidant. I said I had heard nothing! So I called Guidant/Boston Scientific today and left a voice mail for their legal department. I more than likely am having some pacer problems, the biggest other than a lot of fainting spells, my battery is depleting rather rapidly.

Lead Extraction

Can anyone give me information on lead extractions?
My situation is....I am 34 with my third implant. I will be having my fourth implant within the next couple months. I was also told that I have no more room for leads in my upper chamber as I have one active with two "old inactive" leads. So a lead extraction will need to be done. Since they are doing the upper chamber they will also remove the one "old inactive" lead in my lower chamber. Being only 13 when I had my first pacemaker implan...

Lifted Restrictions???

Hi everyone!
My little one will be 5 in June--he has had a pacemaker since he was 18 months (1 1/2 years old)--due to 3rd degree heart block. Anyway, I was initially told by his cautious EP that sports would be very restricted--tennis, swimming, track were okay, but no contact sports or even sports with "incidental" contact, like baseball or basketball. Well, last month, the EP had changed his mind due to new statistics on incidental contact. He now says that any non-contact sports are o...

Considering Pace Maker yes/No

I have Atrial Fibrillation. Have had ablation and numerous meds. My heart is irregular most of the time and I feel bad. Doc now says Pace Maker is the only answer. Please tell me your experience with pace maker good/bad. What do think? Will it help? Does Pros outweigh Cons? Can you do normal yard work? Live normal life? Travel? Marvin

PM Beeping

Thank you for your response. I didn't know that cary_58 wasn't a member anymore. Marilyn, I have just had this new one put in Nov. '07. I wouldn't think my battery would be down by now, but then again who knows. I ran the other one down in 5 years. I am hoping this one will last longer. I have heard some people say that their drs told them there was no way that they could have heard it beeping and then I have had others tell me that their drs said it could. I'm just a little mixed up right now....
