Battery Heat????

Hello all! I am just wondering if anyone has ever felt heat at their implant site. The other day, I happened to feel the spot, and it just felt really hot. I asked a friend (who is a nurse) to feel it later, but no heat. So, I just chalked it up to being in the sun or a fluke. The next day, I felt the heat again, and happened to be sitting next to my nurse friend. She also felt the heat this time. I wondered if this could just be a result of having a battery or generator kicking on, or could it be signs of something else? I would be concerned about infection if it was hot all the time, but it is not...

call

The more I think about it, the more I think you should call and ask for an interrogation to see what's up. That's just too weird, something must be going on. Write down the date and time that it happened to help them pinpoint.

Nope

Pacemaker batteries normally don't make heat.

The only possible way I can think of for them to make heat is a dead short, in which case the battery would soon be totally discharged. The good news is, if it does that every day, it isn't shorted. It would only take 3-4 times to totally discharge the battery.

It could possibly be inflammation, which can dilate blood vessels and cause extra blood flow in the area. It may only be 1-2 Deg. warmer than the surrounding area, but feel a lot warmer than it really is.

When is the next time you get your pacemaker interrogated? Be sure to tell your tech or doc.

Good luck!

I'd never heard of a pm generating heat. Was it the same time of day? Wondering if it could have been the self test. I'd keep an eye out for signs of infection just in case, can't be too careful.

No...

Hi, Ellen...I did not go to the doctor about this. I have a follow-up 9/15 with the Cardiologist. I just had an interrogation on 7/21. There was nothing out of the ordinary going on in the reports. I will probably call the doctor next week about it...it just seems like a silly thing to call about...

I'm having a similar sensation with pain a week after replacement surgery. Did you go to the doctor?
