what causes slow recovery?

Hi,
I had a pacemaker implanted on February 26th. On January 30th prior to the pacemaker I had a non invasive back surgery called a percutaneous disk decompression resulting from disk injury following a car accident.
At any rate my recovery from the back surgery was pretty slow, but the recovery from the pacemaker even slower. It was 6 weeks this past Thursday and I am now no way ready to return to work.( I am a teacher) I still can't breathe when I walk very far and certainly not upstairs. I always feel the flick flick of the pacemaker when it kicks in. My doctor is great but does not seem to know why it is taking so long.. Does anyone have any ideas?

I know this is a pain but you did not get sick quick. So getting all your strength back takes time. especially on top of another major surgery. For me it took about 6 months until i felt great again after the settings got right. I went back to work but it was hard for awhile. But i have been great ever since that has been 3 years now. We are all different and unique so what works for one, may not work for another. We all heal differently.I had my pacemaker implanted at age 75 and was back working two days later. I found that I healed more quickly if I wasn't lying around with time on my hands thinking. I needed to work to distract me from my pain and my fears and worries. I know that you will be just fine.

It made a HUGE difference in my life. Once I got it, I was finally able to run, and ride my bike long distances.
