Body Fat

Hi, I recently joined the YMCA. I need to have a "gym" environment to actually get into shape. Part of my membership involves working with a personal trainer. Today was my first appointment with the trainer. She is about 20 years old and about a size 4. Good grief I was thinking, then she spoke. She is smart and funny! yay I thought. She asked a lot of questions and we discussed goals for me and what I would like to gain or lose. Then she took my medical history! Yikes! She says that I need a medical release before she can work with me. Then she took my blood pressure and explained that I would not be using the "fat meter". She explained that it could and would interfere with my pacemaker! Wow! I never knew that before.
Does anyone here know what the meter is? Did anyone else know this about the meter and pacemaker interference?

Here is what I have found....
Omron bodyLogic Body Fat Analyzer comes with two AAA batteries, an illustrated instruction manual and a fitness/nutrition book.

Important:
Persons using the following types of equipment should not use the Body Logic Body Fat Analyzer: cardiac pacemaker, electrocardiograph, and/or other medical devices implanted in the body or used for life support. For use from ages 10 to 80 years.

Just wanted to share... thought you would like to know.

and no i did not know. i am glad tho that now i do know. iam sure you can be started on some simple program and not go into this head on and be affected by these pieces of equipment. before gyms were around walking or running was the thing i remember. if she is a good personal trainer she can help you. you probably do need a letter from the dr. hugs jessie and as for the size 4 ...don't let that bother you. sometimes just getting back into a 10 is all you need to look smashing

She has a good body fat calculator based on weight, age, height and activity level.

Sometimes people get very freaked out by the fact we have PMs and actually want to lead an active lifestyle. Some people still believe we should be old people who sit around playing card games. Since I also work at the YMCA as an instructor, I can tell you we are bound by very strict rules when working with clients. It's to protect the Y. If you're worried you won't get the service for which you are paying, maybe ask around and see if you can find someone on the side to be your trainer. Then you won't have to worry about the Y limits. At the Y, there are many, many people who are willing to train others. They may not be licensed but they'll do a great job. Next, you'll have to take some responsibility for your training. Not that you don't now...just saying, because of the preconceived notion that us PMers should not be active, there is a lot of misinformation out there. We often have to educate others. Just part of reality for us.

Best wishes and great job getting a trainer! Work hard! :)

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
