Feeling bad don't know why.

It's been 8 years since I got my pacemaker and lately I have been
getting really short of breath and can't do anything that calls for any exertion. Can't even go for a walk without having to stop every so often to rest.
Could this possibly be caused because the battery is low?
Whatever the reason it is scaring me.

Hello LindyJ,

According to www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/shortness_of_breath.htmthere are 1398 disease that can cause of shortness of breath. I don't think you find low will pacemaker battery on that list. Of course I'm kidding you there, but if you are concerned a low battery may be the problem is have the battery checked out.

I have had my pacemaker for 9 years and throughout that time I have had episodes of shortness of breath that ranged from being an attention getter to severe. Unfortunatley the worst episodes were caused by partially blocked or blocked arteries in my heart but I was lucky that they could be opened by a stent or by bypass surgery. As aggravating as it is to get a stent it is much better than having bypass surgery which is what it took to solve the blocked artery problem 25+ years ago.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying you need a stent or bypass surgery, that was just me. I can say that my pacemaker has never been a contributor to the SOB problems for me.

I will say that based on the severity you describe for your SOB problems I think you need to see your doctor now.

I wish you good luck,

Smitty

BATTERY

It happened to my neighbour. They let his battery get too low. You have had it 8 years. When did you last have a full check? Your pacemaker may have gone into elective replacement mode and turned off the motion sensor because of a low battery. Let us know what they discover. Cheers Peter
