bruised from elec shock?

My dad just got his 2nd pacemaker. It was supposed to be a regular, maybe outpatient procedure. My mom was told they wanted to keep him overnight for observation--no big deal.
Upon his arrival at home, my mom noticed he had a massive bandage on his chest and was covered from head to toe with bruises. Even his lower lip was purple. During my dad's stay
the hospital, a nurse told him that his heart had stopped during surgery and they had to give him electric shock to start it back up! BUT THE DOCTOR DID NOT SAY THIS NOR DID THE DISCHARGE PAPERS MENTION THAT. Is this normal? (that the docs would not tell my mom or dad about this complication?)
Please advise!

Hi there dont know if you are in the UK but if you are it is usual for the hospital to send a discharge letter to the gp giving all info. It may be the same in other countries I dont know.

I suggest you contact the GP and ask if this letter has arrived and if you can make an appointment to discuss it.

Good luck hope he's doing ok.

If this is what really happened the physician should have discussed the information with the family. I would get my father's consent to discuss his care and contact the MD and hospital. This is not information that should be swept under the rug. Why also does he have all this bruising. You all have a right to this information and if there were complications you (family) should have been informed. This is not something that I would wait for a discharge letter to discuss. dottodot

Oh, this is NOT right ~ ~ I only know what I have read on this website re: PM ~ am awaiting my own Dr. to arrange my PM, BUT I have an opinion ~ ~ This Gentleman was just getting a 2nd PM? IF his heart had stopped & ALL this bruising was necessary ~ he would be in CCU ~ ~ this Gentleman has had something reeaaallly bad happen to him ~ a nightmare ~ make contact with ALL involved, even the nurses/Dr's./techs and do NOT stop 'til ALL answers re: his condition/bruises are answered. This Gentleman had to have been ABUSED to be this bad AND released from the hospital ~ ~ God Bless ~ ~ ( :
