Can't take the feeling

Hey all,
It's been about a week and a half since my implant, and I'm now just getting so agitated by the feeling of the PM up against my skin. Even though I'm keeping my arm movements below my shoulder I still a feel the PM sitting against the chest muscle when I move my arm. Do you get used to this after a while, or do your arm movements always remind you that you you have a PM? I want to sleep on my stomach so bad sometimes but it just irritates me more.

Hi! Yes you will get used to it. I still feel it whenever I move my arm. I have been able to sleep on my stomache again. I have had my PM for 6 months. I go in on Wed. for surgery to have one of my lead wires reconnected....so I will have to go through the recovery again. Back to my back and the recliner. :(

Yes, I did get used to it. Just like the feeling of my bones under my skin. The pacemaker has become a part of me.

I understand your feeling "agitated" by the feeling though. I found myself waking up one night trying to pull my pacemaker out from under my skin! I had been dreaming and woke up before I did any damage. It took some long stern talks from my hubby to get me to understand that I could not live without the pacer therefore I needed to make it my friend, sorta speak. He named it his "Best friend" because it kept me alive and gave me time with him.

Time for healing

Keep in mind you had your chest wall sliced open and an object placed under the skin. Just stop and think..the last time you cut your finger on a piece of paper or kitchen knife how long did it take before it was no longer painful. Our bodies take a while to heal.

My suggestion is to keep the arm on the pacer side active while avoiding lifting it past the shoulder. Just don't force it past where it hurts. The idea is to keep from getting adhesions in the scar area that will cause problems later.

For me after about 3 weeks it was hardly noticeable. Past a few months and I don't even think about it except when I get on the forum.

I'm 5 months here & used to it. LOL
It drove me NUTS not being able to sleep on my left side with my arm up under my pillow all cozy. LOL Now I can!!!
Everyone told me it takes time, & it does. I'm looking forward to the day I don't even think about it. (As I've been told) I know that day will be here.

It takes time. 4 months in, and I'm able to sleep on my side again...wonderful feeling. There are hours during the day that I don't notice. It's still very tender if I get bumped. The raw feeling will pass too. It takes time.

You know you're wired when...

You are always wired and full of energy.

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
