swelling

Had implant 12/1/10. No issues with the implant site until just a cople days ago. Seems to be swollen. The area directly above the incision and radiating out about 1 1/2 inches on all sides. It seems to be a little more tender also. No redness. No oozing. The area is not warm. Going to be calling clinic today.

Does the discomfort go away? Do you just get use to it? I don't want to be annoying and call about every symptom but I know I don't want to experience my heart stopping again either.

Do most of you contact your pacer clinic with issues or your PCP?

Thanks for the input.

Who Do You See

Hello Jen,

Using my two implants as a basis, after 2+ weeks I think discomfort should be virtually nonexistent. I did have a little soreness to linger for a few weeks. While I never had to call about my implant site if I had I would have gone to the doctor that did the implant.

On the first one, several weeks after the implant I was in my PCP's office for something else and mentioned that I thought my PM was shocking me and we talked about that for a few minutes. They did an X-ray to see if leads were still in place and when they were I was sent to the Dr that did the implant. Took about 5 years (that's right 5) to get that problem solved.

Now to answer you question. For questions involving PM issues I would go to the PM clinic. In your case with the swelling around the PM, I say go to which ever is easier or the quickest for you to see. Either one should be able to you if you have the start of an infection in the implant area and if it needs attention.

Good luck,

Smitty
