New here.

Hi, just found the site.
I had a P/M implanted 3 weeks ago. Bradycardia and I kept passing out. Average heart rate was 46 bpm.
I'm a mailman and I tried to go back to work this week.
Didn't go as well as I would have liked for it to. I got weak and a bad case of the shakes. I'm pretty sensitive to the P/M and I felt it take off several times. Some mild chest pain and I was just not comfortable.
I called my Dr and I was told to stop working and come see him. I called out for the rest of the week.
Was just wondering if maybe I over did it or if I should have waited longer.

Thanks for the reply.
I go to the Dr tomorrow and we'll have a chat.
I've felt thing go off since it was implanted. It's not painful, just a weird feeling.
I'll update and let you know what is said.

Welcome :)

Hi Gunbunny

Just 3 weeks ago & you're back doing ALL that walking, WOW. I think - yup, you might have overdone it.

Usually - when we get pacemakers; most are implanted with what they call default settings, basically your settings are set at what the average person would need. However, with that being said, we are all different and usually during your first "interrogation" that is when your pacemaker will have some settings adjusted for YOU.

Many times some of us have to get our pacemakers adjusted quite a few times before we feel comfortable.

You should never feel your pacemaker pacing you. Yes, I've heard that some doctors say "oh, you're just sensitive", but with that being said, if you can find a good PM Tech (or whoever adjusts your settings), then you should not feel it pacing, that is what I've read and have been told by many people here, plus my EP - electrophysiologist.

Most times (in my opinion) where they have to make the adjustments is in what they call the Rate Response. When you get the opportunity, please ask them to go over that with you.

Again, you're just 3 weeks in with your new "buddy", and I'm thinking with the amount of exercise and I'm assuming the weight of your mailbag is extra heavy this time of year...I would take some more time off to recover. Your scar may look like it's healed but you have a lot of healing yet to be done underneath.

And...one last comment - if you have chest pain, that is your body telling you something is not quite right.

Take it easy, and give yourself more time to heal.

And by all means, I think you should have your doctor check you out as soon as possible...whoever implanted the pacer or whoever is going to adjust your settings.

Take care,
Pookie

You know you're wired when...

You have the perfect reason to show off your chest.

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.
