I would like to know

I have had my pacemaker a year this past September.  The other night, while in bed, I expierenced a feeling that sounded like a hard beating of the heart; it did it twice during the night. Could this have been my pacemaker kicking in, my pulse was about 64. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Pam

Self Test

Likely the pacer going through its self test and calibration. At some point most of us have the experience of being awake when it happens. During the test your HR is stepped up to a couple of higher rates (85,100 for mine) and then tests are run that cause you to skip a beat or two. Can be unsettling the first time it happens. The feeling is a lot like the one where you are having a office check.

How were you sleeping?

Were you sleeping w/ your left ear on a pillow? That can cause you to sense your heartbeat as being loud. Also, on your left side. gravity makes your heart lie on your rib cage a bit differently & you may feel your heart beating moreso than on your back or right side.
