Medication

Hi.  I wonder if anyone can help. I’ve noticed on here there are lots of people on medication and obviously I will ask my doctor at my check up next week, I just thought I’d ask on here too.

I got the PM a few weeks ago for blackouts and dizziness mainly, so far it has stopped the blackouts although I haven’t really been doing much.  However, I’m still experiencing the dizzy spells I would have before blacking out. Is anyone on medication for this?  It is still unnerving being new to the PM when having the feelings I had previously and not being sure the PM will work as I am still getting used to relying on it. So I would rather keep the worry at bay by minimizing the dizziness?  It could also be that my settings aren’t right yet; they’ve been fiddling round quite a bit. Thanks!

Some dizziness is normal

Hi,

Since I've had my pm in, I've noticed a dizzy, somewhat fainting feeling. I never had that before getting it!! It's usually when I'm sitting still and I think it has to do with my body still adjusting to the decreased blood flow in my subclavian vein and/or heart. The leads must take up a certain amount of volume and somehow our bodies have to adjust. My cardio blamed it all on panic attacks but I don't have any anxiety at the time. I'm 7 weeks out from having mine implanted and even as I sit and type this, I can feel the dizzy/shocky feeling that you describe. If I move around, my heart beats a little harder and compensates for the lack of volume. I was not prescribed any medication for my 2 degree heart block, but some people are for different reasons, depending on what is going on with BP or other irregularities.

My cardio harangued me with the fact that I cannot faint. Yes, thank you, doc, I do understand the hydraulics of it all. It's just that that's how it feels: Like you're about to faint, but don't.

I have some dizzy spells also

I had my pm implanted 11/1/10 and have dizziness a few times a week. It isn't as severe as before the pm but I have never passed out. However I have never passed out in my whole life. I am on blood pressure meds and a full strength asperin. I didn't have these symptoms the first two months just started the last two weeks my blood pressure will drop low and heart rate way to fast. My diagnosis is tachybrady syndrome. Has anyone here had this particular diagnosis?

Hi john 46,
I am a new member thanks to everyone for their sharing . Igot my PM in march of 2010 and experienced lots of dizzy spells. My Dr. said it would get better with time, and it has gotten some better. When you decide to stand after sitting stand still for a moment or two before walking. This seemed to help me. I still have occasional dizzy spells, but not like in the beginning.I feel sometimes that I am over medicated, but the Dr.says no. My biggest problem is that I can't sleep because of the twitching Everyone have a great day.

I'm interested in what john 46 said about not sleeping because of the twitching. I get this too, and can't sleep. I take sleeping tablets now, they help, but are addictive. It's only 5 months since my PM went in, and I'm 49. Only time will heal.

Hi - I'm new here. 77 years old, PM for over 6 months.
I'm on 100 mg Toprol xl. I'm having dizzy spells, sometimes after just sitting in my recliner, and also after exertion such as a singing rehearsal. I was interested in the comment that the PM leads could take up room in the arteries and impede blood flow. I'd like to know more of the known negative effects of the PM, since my doctor doesn't share such info.

What meds are you on now ? What was the reason for the PM ?
