shocking

Last Sunday (4/3/11) My defibrillator shocked me 58 times in less than 30 minutes. My heart went into A fib and confused it. Now I'm having anxiety and living my life in fear. I start counseling tonight but if anyone has any advice it is greatly appreciated.. Thanks so much!!

Did you notify your Doctor of this event?

If not, do so to be sure everything is ok.

calming down

Sue... I was rushed to the local ER and then transfered to Geisinger Medical Center, where I spent 3 days. Donb... this is the first time it has ever fired. I thought after the first shock I was done... go to the dr get checked... then came the second, third, fourth...... Its some scary stuff. Cabg Patch....I was sent home with a strong magnet that will stop the shocks if it happens again. The reset my defib to deliver shocks after 200 beats per minute. With the magnet if I truly need it I will pass out and the magnet will fall off allowing the defib to do its job. I'm so glad I found this website...... It is going to help me so much!!!

Great Fear

Hello Mimi, I looked at your Bio and you're on your 5th PM/Defib. Wondering if you have had prior defibrillator to your last replacement. I'm on my 4th PM since 1992 and have been very fortunate. There are quite a few Defib patients on this great site. Maybe, if you are up to it you could give a little history as Magster questioned. Comunication is always the magic word, don't be afraid to ask any questions. AND, believe me, 58 shocks in 30 seconds brings in after shocks to all of us members, even without Defib implants. Everyone shares!!! donb

improving

Went to counseling tonight and learning some relaxing techniques. Never really realized how hard it is to relax. I think with a few more sessions, and the help of you all, I will make it. I refuse to let fear take over my life.....

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.
