B/F with ICD

Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this. I have entered a relationship with a man who has an ICD, implanted 3 years ago. I was hoping I could find a forum for wives or girlfriends of ICD men. I have numerous questions obviously and am new in the relationship. Questions range from electrolyte levels, intimacy problems, shocks, exercise levels, etc. I ask him and he gives me the impression that he is okay. I have been to 2 dr visits, and have gone through a range of emotions from fear to relief. He had cardiac arrest 3 years ago, was diagnosed with an enlarged heart, and had no oxygen to his brain for a half an hour. He was 'dead' and placed in an enduced coma. He woke up with a ICD confused obviously. He lost short term memory from the lack of oxygen to the brain. I just need a forum for reassurance and affirmation from women in similar situations. It's hard to find friends who understand.

I'm quite sure we have a few members who joined because they are in relationships where their partner may have a pacemaker or a defib. It's nice to see you are so interested in trying to understand what he is going through.

It is very hard to find friends who understand, but you have found the right spot!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you could encourage him to join this site too!!!!

Take care,
Pookie

Its great that you want to understand his heart issues. I got my pm 2.5 years ago and have no restrictions on anything that I do, in fact I probably do more than most 58 year old females. I have a very active life in all areas, so dont worry about the pm part. About your other questions I am sure that people will come along in here with answers and advice for you.

Thank You

Thanks Pookie and Hot Heart,
I am happy I can ask questions here. The more I read, the more I am relieved. I found out last night that during the induced coma the doctors 'froze' him because of the 38 minutes he was dead and his brain was without oxygen. I saw this procedure on The Doctors with a woman who had the exact same symptoms prior to the cardiac arrest.

I am wondering if this is the right thread to be posting in, as I am familiar with forums and understand the etiquette on such forums.

Thanks,
Jen

Dont worry jen!

You will soon be arrested by the chat police if you post in the wrong place, lol.
