On July 1,2010 a new Pacemaker was installed as I was advised the battery had expired on the initial PM(was installed in June of 2004)and a new device needed to be implanted as soon as possible. Two days later had to call 911. Thought I was having a heart atack--Short of breath, dizziness, headachey. Some symptoms still persist.
Any comments????

When the battery gets low, the pm goes into a mode with limited function called End of Life. It will keep you safe by not letting your hr get dangerously low, but you will not feel good if you are dependent on the pm because all the extra functions are turned off. If you had it replaced and still have problems, call and have it checked again. Sometimes they put different settings on the new one, or the new one has features the old did not and it takes time to get them adjusted for you.

Your ICD has a better memory than you.

I'm waiting to replace my St. Jude Integrity PM (5+ yrs old) that has atrial fibrillation suppression mode. I've asked the cardiologist to put in a St. Jude Accent PM although he prefers a Medtronic. Can you tell me the model of your new PM and has it been appropriately adjusted?
Hope you're feeling better by the time you read this. Good luck to you!
