I had a Medtronic pacemaker inserted two weeks ago. Since then I feel strange fluttery movements to the right of my sternum when I am lying on my right side. They occur at irregular intervals and are not painful, just disturbing. Has anyone else experienced this feeling after having a pacemaker implanted?

I had my pacemaker fitted 11 days ago and am having similar sensations. However it is on default setting and has to be programmed for 'me' in about 2 weeks time. I believe this might be the problem. My pulse was 32 or so and now it is in the 80's so a vast difference and one which I am not used to! Hope this helps.

Flutters too

I get flutters and what I would call palpitations. Have had these every day since PM was fitted last October 2010. I'm still trying to sort things out. Next thing the Cardio Docs want me to do is use beta-blockers. I haven't started them yet, so nothing to report.

It's probably nothing but I'd call and get it checked out just in case. Better safe than sorry!

I have a Medtronic pacemaker and have the same problem when I lay on my side... The nurses at the pacemaker clinic told me its the wires touching the side of the heart that cause the flutter. I have had my pacemaker for 18 months and still notice it early in the morning when I typically roll on my side.

Thanks Juanita and all others who responded. I feel better knowing others have similar things. My cardiologist did do an echocardiogram this week to make sure the movements I've been feeling don't result from a valve problem and everything turned out okay. I will see my EP week after next and will mention it to him. It only happens when I lie on my right side and then not constantly, just off and on. Sure feels like the wire is hitting something.

could be afib

but.............could also be caused by anxiety, many of us suffered anxiety when we first got our pm. When our hearts have been beating so slowly it feels wierd at first, and you become very in tune with every little beat of your heart as well in the beginning. Dont tend to think about it any more!
