size and pain

Hi All
I am new to the group and the world of pacemakers. I thought I was going in the hospital to get my gallbladder out and ended up with a pacemaker. My pace maker is from St Jude Medical model 2210. I feel like it is huge. They said it would be the size of a silver dollar and it is so much bigger. I got it a month ago and it is still very uncomfortable. I feel like the cardiologist thinks I am a hypochondriac. How long should I expect this to hurt? My incision is really red and he said there is a little keloid ( I think that was the word) but not to do anything and to "stop touching it." I feel a pinching sensation inside, and when I move around at night it is worse. Is this normal?

i got my pacemaker in on may 27th and still currently get pain in my shoulder were the incesion is .
your best bet is too do what the doctor said and not touch it . When my incesion area gets red i try rubbing some lotion on baby lotion i find works well its gental on the skin but rub in very gently . I also feel the pinching feeling too, which scares me sometimes because i think my defibulater is going off because i have both pacemaker and defibulater & being only 17 i worry easily.
At night time if its hurting i try an prop it up with a pillow maybe that will help , well hope my advice helps you out take care (:

me too!

Hi Tracy,
I had a St Jude pace ,maker implanted on the 13th of October. I too am suprised how large it feel in the chest. Also, I have experienced shoulder pain. So many people have commented to me how routine and simple this surgery is...I don't think others realize it is a real adjustment to your body and emotions. One constantly aware of its presents. Hopefully in time these symptoms will diminish and become a matter of fact. So glad we have this forum to share our thoughts...all the best to you!
