As Ian says, your house is 240v, so there's no difficulty with that. We used to have a large boat with two massive Cummins diesel engines (each one large enough to run a lorry) - I could stand between them in the engine room with absolutely no effect on my PM, and I am 100% paced. Based on the smaller size, and below-deck location of a barge engine, you should have no issues.

Canal holidays are absolutely wonderful - a really great way to force your self to slow down as you move along at 5 mph and really appreciate the scenery and wildlife. Have a wonderful time!

Diesels & alternators

Pacer - this has come up before. No diesel engine can bother you at all - it has no ignition system! No matter the size. It probably has a small alternator to recharge its own batteries for the starter system.

Now, a 240 V alternator is another colored horse. While running, it has massive magnetic fields - but as long as you are standing up in its vicinity, you are safe - they drop off that fast. I think someone answered this question by telling the asker that they may do anything but wrap their arms around the alternator & hug it.

I lived in London for 18 mo once & dearly wanted to go on a barge holiday but never found the time - Pls enjoy the experience. Sounds like fun.

Hello pacer240 ( sorry pacer50 )

Your house has a 240v system and you are OK with a PM
Many cars have diesel engines with PM-implant drivers and they are OK.

..... so go for it, and enjoy it . ( It is lovely in the UK today ... if you have weather like this you will have a great time but try not to fall overboard )

It's much better to live with a pacemaker than to risk your life without one.
