What's After Amioderone

Diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy when I was 48 (5 years ago) was implanted with an ICD and have had many shocks. I was originally prescribed Sotalol - eventually I was switched to 200 mg once-daily of amio (other meds are ramipril and bisoprolol). I have had 2 ablations and 1 PVI (for a fib). I am finally stable. There are early signs that some of the toxicity issues (ocular) are starting. I plan to bring this up when I see my electrophysiologist in a few weeks, but I was wondering if anyone in the community has found themselves in the same position. has anyone switched out of amio and to what were you prescribed?

hi i was on amio for atrial-fib and the side effects were blurry vision , shortness of breathe dizzines.Also had fluid so was in hospital and had a bout with I am 77 A-fib so had a pm put in and was taken off amio and put on corieg. It took quite a while to have amio get out of my system after about 6 months i started to feel better .Stilision is blurry but breathing dizziness have been lessened. Also take lisi, anf warfin but over all feel a lot better with pm and new medication. I am 77 yrs old male . Al Miller

Antiarrhythmic Drugs

I have never taken amioderone but I have taken different antiarrhythmic drugs over the years. Depending on the type and location of your arrhythmia (upper or lower heart chamber) there are a number of drugs you could be changed to which of course means the answer to your question will come from your doctor.

i have an icd and when it fired i was put on amio, things went well for 5 years, now this drug is killing my thyroid by the amount of iodine it produces.
i was in the hospital for a month, they switched me to sotalol and i've been taking prednisone to calm the thyroid which is hyper to the point that i am shaking everyday, and the side effects of prednisone are the worst i've ever experienced-muscle loss being the number one.
it's now been 2 months since the hospital and i just heard that my labs indicate that the thyroid is getting worse and that i should seek out a consultation for surgery. all of this thrills me since i have serious CHF and it's 50/50 for me in surgery. all is a mess right now

I was on amio for a year following my CRT-D Metronic implant for CHF. For me it was toxic, very bad stuff. I had SOB, fatique, nausea and never felt well from day one. After insisting I get off that cr*p my cardio finally agreed. Within one week I was feeling much better. But...I had done my research on my meds myself and I was pretty sure amio was the problem. I still feel tired alot and still have SOB but it is so much better than before. I do wonder however if my current SOB is a nasty hangover from the amio.

I HAVE AN ICD AND WAS PUT ON AMIO,BUT AFTER 2 YEARS MY THYROID WENT HYPERTHYROID SO THE DOCTOR PUT ME ON SOLTALOL, MY THYROID IS NOW BACK AT ITS NORMAL "SELF"
