I had mine fitted 5 months ago - though I'm 66. Like many people on here I still get itching around the PM at certain times of the day. I know for some people this goes on for years. Other than that I don't even think about it until I come on this forum. I got back to normal quite quickly and have been back at the gym doing the same stuff as before for some time now. If you have no other symptoms I can't see any reason why you shouldn't just carry on as before after 6 weeks.Best of luck. John

I'm the opposite

Apparently, along with my grandparents swimming in the wrong gene pool, I got the extra nerve endings in my arteries and veins. That means I can tell when I go into a-fib, feel my different heart beats, and be aware of extra thumps and bumps.

It's great for a-fib because I can tell you when it starts, what kind, and when it stops. It's bad when they miss while putting in an IV. It's really bad when they start digging for oil or start doing a cork screw to get the needle in.

After they inserted my PM I could feel when it kicked in. That feeling lasted for a few weeks. Now I don't feel it at all unless I'm in a-fib. I actually felt when the PM kicked in a flipped me out of a-fib. A really good feeling.

Being younger, you might be more sensitive and feel the PM. However you should start feeling better and the feelings (hopefully) will go away.

Hopefully you'll start feeling better. You're young and you've got a lot of living to do. Enjoy life!

Take the time to heal

Follow doctor's instructions - give yourself that six weeks to heal and let the leads anchor in. Then you'll be better than ever. Welcome to a great club of lucky people!

I've had my pm for almost 2 yrs and most times I don t even though it's there.

I don't feel it coming on and off. When I first got the pm I did feel something for the first few months-- like some clicking-- but that seemed to go awAy.

I resumed all activities and I feel great.

... Go to the top right corner to the SEARCH function. Click on it & search for "Some tough love for newbies." It'll be the second entry when it opens. Long post. It'will give you some perspective on your surgery. & how to mentally get over it.

How long it will take YOU to recover is as individual as you are. Everyone is different.

Most (99+%) of us NEVER feel the PM working. BUT - to tell you it's your imagination would be a mistake, because you may just be one of the few who CAN sense the PM working. If you actually CAN feel it, your cardio can adjust the pacing voltage such that is not sensible.

back to normal

Well, if your normal before was your heart dropping to 10bpm, you're going to love your new normal!

It's extremely rare to feel it pacing. Most of us heal and forget about it. I got my first one when I was 27, that was almost 20 years ago. I'm healthy and active. People would never guess I have it, I don't look like a heart patient. We're fortunate to have problems with a simple fix. The pm makes sure our hearts behave so we can get on with our lives.

21 and paced

Hi, I know the feeling of being young and having one. I had mine fitted two weeks ago, actually it isn't at all that bad, the procedure is over and done with before you know it and it does take time to heal. For me I was aching a found it hard to move my left arm for about a week, after that I'm fine, I actually have to remind myself not to lift my left arm!

I actually can feel it pace me, i don't know why or if my settings are maybe slightly out, but it doesn't hurt, it feels like a big palpitation really, and that's it, it's not scary and actually makes me laugh when it happens. I don't know why I can feel mine but I'm already used to it and it's only been two weeks!

I hope you feel better soon, you will be fine :-)
