electric car charging

The public charging points for electric cars warn pacemaker users to stay at least 2 metres away when charging the car.

Is this realistic?

Should I be concerned as to having a home fast charger (BMW make one) for their BMW i3?

I have asked the garage and they do not seem to be able to come up with an answer.

Any help, please?

I have a CRT-D I have not had any problems recharging.

Warnings are posted for a reason, being intelligent, literate people we should read all warnings and decide if they apply to us.  Here in North America the devices we have are very well shielded.  We are safe.  Maybe someone with a very old say 1980's unshielded pacemaker might not be safe. So many warnings are just legalese to protect the parent company. Things that do bother my CRT stop when I move away from the source of the interference.

Selwyn:  Doesn't matter whether you are in  the UK or US, voltages & amperages used for caer chargers are about the same - 240 Volts & 30 - 50 Amps.  What is the significance?  That there is nothing special about the power used.  I can give you a data point about the lower level - US electric water heaters operate at 240 Volts & 30 Amps.  These heaters have a 30 - 50 gal capacity & have two heating elements in them.)  My PM passed w/i 6 inches of a power cable leading to our water heater when it was heating - My PM went into test mode, surprised the daylights out of me & I darned near fell off a ladder.  My guess is that a foot separation is adequate for that not to happen.  Second data point - we installed an "on demand" electric  water heater in the house we built.  It runs off of a pair of 60 Amp 240 volt curcuits.  I work w/i a foot of it frequently to tweak its systems w/o ill effect.  I'd say that 2 meters is a bit overly on the conservative side for safety.
