Bandage on site

Hello I'm 5 days post operation on a 2Wire Medtronic pacemaker and I still have the initial large bandage on top of the incision it is clean and dry as I have been very careful with it but I was wondering when I am able to take that off I was told to not mess with the steri-strips for sure, that they will fall off on their own but they said nothing about the large bandage except not to get it wet. just wondering if it's good to take the large bandage off thank you for your input

Instructions

My post op instructions said to take the outer bandage off in 10 days and to let the steri strips fall off.  I was also told not to pick at or pull any of the sutures.  When I bathed near that area I used the  surgical presurgical soap I was instructed to use the morning of the implant.  Probably any nurse in your doctor's office could answer that question via phone.  Congrats on getting your PM.  We are so fortunate to have this technology helping us out.

post op appointments at which time the nurse would remove the bandage ..They double and triplecheck everything , BUT , hospital communications tends to be poor..

Bandage

The doc who installed Chip ( my pm nickname) wanted the initial bandage removed by me after a few days to check for infection and then recovered with a new bandage.  He stated that infection is the worst risk when receiving a pacemaker.  It seems instructions differ with each doc. Best to call dr. office and ask for pm tech to verify inatructions.  At my first follow up visit I got my pm tech's direct phone number. Phoning her with questions has always worked.  If she does not know the answer she can easily get to my cardiologist or to the pm company rep for answers and get back to me with instructions. This has saved me and the Dr office a lot of time and is very comforting to have available.

call and ask

Instructions are anywhere from next day to a week or more, depends what's under it. Call and ask if it's not in the papers they sent you home with.

It seems as if each docor has its own set of instructions

Mine were to keep the wound dry and change bandage  if necessary. After 3 days i could remove the bandage and the  wound should be closed and not leaking anymore.

After that i was allowed to shower. Just needed to make sure not to point the shower head directly to the wound.

Best to call you doctors office for instructions.
