After my surgery

I had a question. I had my PM implanted 2 weeks ago i am 27 and diagnosed with SSS due to SA node dysfunction. 3 hours after my PM surgery they came to test my device and they stated that in those 3 hours i was pacing 67% of the time. Is this a high rate? I know one thing with me using it that much im sure glad i got it and since then no episodes of fainting thank god

Are you saying you were fainting before your PM?

It's hard to say from this vantage point.

If you heart rate was consitently low before your PM, and indeed you were fainting often, than the percentage could indeed be correct, as you know there are people who pace 100% of the time.

Also, PM's are "generally" set during surgery but VERY often need to be adjusted after a few weeks or a month after surgery.  In my case, "Sparky's" lower setting was set at 60 BPM, but when the cardiologist looked at the history, 60 was too high and reduced it to 55.

My suggestion is that you schedule an appointment with the EP and have them check oout your settings.

Yes prior to surgery i was fainting at least once a week and having horrible dizziness and since my PM i have had no episodes.... Its funny i call mine my ticker i thought i was the only person who named their PM

Most of us give our PM's a name

Then the 67% may be correct.  But do make an appointment with your cardiologist and electrophysicist to have it checked out.

They will take the time to explain everything for you .... just go in with a bunch or questions....

Thank you

Thank you i have an appointment for my post op on the 27th at his office. Im very happy with the results i have seen since my PM surgery as i have suffered from these symptoms with no answers since i was 13. My PCP always said i was fine he even put me on anti seizure meds when i wasnt having seizures. Since i started seeing my EP in june i knew he would be the one to figure it out and help me and he has come through for me 100%. I was scared at first but once i thought about it i figured it was time and he knew what he was talkibg about. He didnt just look at me and say ur to young and healthy to have a heart problem like everyone else did. I have a very extensive family history of heart problems and he took that into consideration and did extensive testing prior to the surgery. Im just glad i finally got answers and im now able to live with piece of mind knowing my ticker has my back.

pacing

If you feel great and aren't passing out, then you are pacing the exact right amount! There is no one number that's considered good or bad, we are all different. Some people pace for seconds at a time, some of us pace every beat, most are somewhere in between.

So glad you finally got a doctor who listened and got to the bottom of it!!!!

I was 27 when I got my first one, also. Young for some, perhaps, but just right for me because it gave me my life back. Priceless. I'm 50 now, healthy and active, no complications whatsoever.

Great

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
