Merlin

Happy New Year everyone, I had a St Jude crt-p implanted in July of this year. Starting in October I’ve had runs of what’s been called AIVR, WCT, PMT and VT. VT was confirmed last week by my EP and he has scheduled an EP Study for January 9th. My question is, has anyone experienced these arrhythmias and not had their home monitor pick up the alerts? I have a Merlin monitor and since October, I’ve felt this arrhythmia a minimum of 20 times since then; half of those were documented by the cardiac rehab nurse. I’ve spoken to both the pacemaker clinic and Merlin and they show no alerts. My EP is looking into it on his end, but I was wondering if any other pacers have experienced this? I was under the impression that the purpose of the home monitor was to pick up these things before they become a problem.

Thank you!

arrhythmias

I have a Medtronic Carelink and also an ICD.  I just had an ablation and EP study a few weeks ago.  I was noticing 3-4 different arrhythmias, and after several  months went by I was beginning to become very symptomatic, and almost passed out walking from my car to my EP's office.  The ICD wasn't showing much of anything.  My Carelink (like Merlin) wasn't showing anything.  The interrogation of the ICD showed tachycardia.  My EP wanted to know what tachycardia I was having.  I received a holter monitor a couple of days later, and my EP was surprised at how bad the arrhythmias were.  I didn't complain until I went for an appt.  One was afib, which I had never had, and the ICD was only showing less than 10 min./day when in fact I was having sometimes 5 hours a day of Afib.  The EP's office was called every day by the monitor company due to the severity of the arrhythmias and I was called several times due to the events.  At the 3 week mark I went into the EP's office for the news of an ablation and EP study.  EP still doesn't know why ICD wasn't showing the Afib.  He has called Medtronic and the rep doesn't know why either.

Good luck.  The monitor revealed everything for me.  I usually don't complain until things get really bad.

Thanks island girl! It’s good to know that  we’re not alone. Happy New Year!

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
