Pacemaker

I had a pacemakerfitted 2015 at Papworth, and since it has been fitted I’ve felt excruciatingly tired . I have AF and I only take 1.25 bisatrol to slow the heart rate down, the pacemaker isn’t I feel necessary what would happen if I asked at next weeks hospital appointment to take it out of me because I’m on warfarin the blood won’t clot and stop taking that 1.25 bisatrol . Before it was fitted I never knew my heart was racing it’s only that one morning in 2015 I had a swollen left leg and I went to the doctors and eventually they sent me for a treadmill test and the hospital wouldn’t do it after wiring me up saying my heart was racing incredibly fast now I never knew this never had any problems before. I’m now 71 but so so tired and when I do go to bed in the afternoon I sleep soundly but I’ve never experienced this before so I’m going to I think tell the consultant how I feel and request that before my golden wedding anniversary sept to take this pacemaker out of me and I think I will be fine, what do you guys think!

what causes what

First of all, the pacer is not what is making you tired. All the pacer does is get your rate up when it's too low, nothing else. Second, untreated afib will cause strokes. You don't want to go there so not treating the afib is not an option.

It's entirely possible the meds are causing the fatigue. Talk to your doctor, there are other options, other medications or possbily ablation.

Have you had a sleep study? Sleep apnea and heart conditions seem to go hand in hand. If you are sleeping but not getting rested, it's worth checking out. Untreated apnea is very hard on the body.

thankyou for your prompt reply, that’s helped me a lot,I though keep telling my doctor that I’m incredibly tired nothing gets pursued. I’m at the Norfolk Norwich Thursday to see a consult I will mention the sleep apnea because by midday I just want to sleep and by 2pm I’m sound asleep,I get woken at 5pm have a light tea, then take my warfarin and back In bed by 10pm sound asleep until the early hours when I become so restless that by 7.30am I’m awake till midday and the cycle repeats again.

Tired all the time

You do not have a pacemaker for your atrial fibrillation. You will have been fitted with a pacemaker because of the risk of sudden death due to a cardiac arrhythmia or blackouts.  Asking to have it removed because of tiredness is not a good idea, and as TracyE says pacemakers do not themselves cause tiredness not associated with exercise.

Certainly, beta- blockers, such as bisoprolol cause tiredness ( you can read the side effect leaflet that comes with the tablet box). There are also many diffrent  illnesses that cause tiredness.

Rather than being directive to the consultant, what you need to do is to ask for his/her help in sorting out your tiredness, explaining how it is affecting the quality of your life.

With best wishes for a successful outcome,

Selwyn

I agree with reviewing your medications with the doctor or getting a second opinion about them. Also, mention your symptoms to the pharmacist and ask their opinion. They often know more about drug effects than the doctors.

You know you're wired when...

You invested in the Energizer battery company.
