Why stress test

Glad to hear everything is dandy.

Re: stress test.

The heart has two systems. (1) The electrical systems that makes all the parts of your heart beat in the right order and as fast as it needs to. (2) The plumbing--all the arteries and veins that carry the blood to and from the heart and supply the heart itself with blood.

The purpose of the stress test is to find out how well the plumbing system is doing.

Your pacemaker works on the electrical system, not the plumbing. Some people have problems with the electrical system only, some with the plumbing only. Some people have both.

Not knowing anything about your condition, that's all I can tell you. You really ought to talk to your doctor and learn why she thinks you should have a stress test at this time.

I'd add that often plumbing issues are the root cause of the electrical problems. Now that they have the symptoms fixed, they may want to find any underlying problems.  Then again, it could be purely electrical and they'll find nothing. That's also worth knowing.

Stress test

At 92, isn't wondering if you'll get out of bed in the morning a stress test?

Stress tests are somewhat quick and dirty and in fact they will wire you so they get an EKG, so yeah it checks plumbing and electrical.

Any good Cardiologist should do periodic tests to determine a patients progress or lack thereof. So unless there was some trigger to him I'd ssy it's just a routine test.

Stress Test

There are different "stress tests" in use.  I've had the treadmill going faster and faster and incline increasing. Usually that test is used to check your cardio/pulmonary functions.  At Minnesota's Mayo Clinic last year, I had a relative easy series of 11-minute stress tests.

My guess is your Doc wants to establish a baseline for your cardiac/pulmonary functions. BUT, there are different ways to do so. Broach the subject with your Doc.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
