Pain Meds

Well hello friends hope you all are doing well. I had a Dr visit yesterday that didn't turn out well. I am potentially in A-fib and also having PMT still. I sometimes wonder if having a complete removal of a SA Node is the cause of the extra amount of problems.
I had a question about pain meds. Has anybody had to go on pain drugs to manage your pain from the amount of surgeries you have had? I have had 5 surgeries so far and this last one has been torture on my body. They have said multiple times that I could be on pain killers for my pain though I have rejected. The NP yesterday said that it may be getting to the point where I just need to go on them b/c when she touched the area around my pm site I moved back. I have a horrible keloid that they tried to remove already and it became worse this time around.
Look forward to hearing how everyones night goes. I don't know what kind of dinner I will be having tonight and if I don't get to partake at least I hope all of you know i'm missing our friends.
My best friend went into the hospital today so I have been watching her kids and we all know that ER visits always are so slow.
Much love and many thanks!
Tammy

Pain Meds

Hi Tammy.

Bottom line...when in pain, take the meds, why suffer? (My opinion only).

Some people are afraid they will become addicted to pain meds, but if one is in pain, then that will NOT happen.

You only become addicted when you want or crave the pill because you liked the "high". If you are taking the correct amount of pain meds, then you will not get this high, but rather it will make the pain better or go away completely.

I too have had 5 surgeries for this one pacemaker and I am 100% convinced that we cannot escape nerve damage. One medication that might be mentioned or offered would be Gabapentin or Lyrica.

When I went thru my 5 surgeries (4 within 10 days) then the 5th one 6 months later, I was put on Dilaudid for pain and it worked, but it's one of those nasty drugs that takes a very long time to wean off of.

It's your choice, but why live in pain if there is a medication out there that will help you?

Best of luck
Pookie

SA Node

I think you already know how I feel about this!

I do believe that having my sinus node completely ablated has caused additional problems.

Let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow! I hope you get some answers and get to feeling better soon.

I have been thinking of you and praying for you. Thanks for being such a great friend!

Amanda

P.S. I hope your friend is alright.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. The Dr visit went well and I don't even know how many times I got told I was young. It gave me a great laugh. They switched my mode from DDDR to DDIR to see if that would help. I am having a lot of pmt and hopefully that will help. I am going on a pain patch and we will see what happens.

Thanks Amanda your an amazing friend also hope your feeling better.

Love,
Tammy

alternative

If you are as stable as you're going to get and they tell you the pain will not get better, I would try alternative medicine. There are a lot of quacks out there but there are also some gems among them. Most of them are temporary fixes so the worst that can happen is it does not help. I was in constant pain after a car accident (head on, highway speed) and after a year the orthopod, pt and neurologist all told me I was as good as I was going to get and started talking pain management. I found a good chiropractor and haven't taken more than an advil in ten years. I know people with similar stories about herbalists, naturopaths, accupuncture, massage and hypnosis. It doesn't work for everyone, but I'm stubborn enough to try every avenue before accepting that I will be on pain meds forever. You never know what might work!
