Inherited Conditions

Hi so I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and I have sick sinus syndrome with a pacemaker and my husband has CPVT currently managing on beta blockers.

We know CPVT is genetic and autosomal dominant and so there is a paediatric alert in place for the baby once they are born to get checked over, but having spoken to the paediatrician apparently SSS can be genetic too and autosomal dominant too? Nothing through the post yet but the consultant was on about getting genetic testing for SSS for me as the age it started it can't be down to wear and tear of the heart.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with genetic SSS?

Genetic SSS

SSS is a symptom not a disease, so I'm sure there is a genetic component to at least some causes. I'm not sure what age has to do with it, though.  SSS is certainly more common in older people, as is AF but probably because they've had more time to develop it (constant rate X time = higher number).  There is no reason a younger person can't have either.  They certainly can if SSS/AF is caused by disease or trauma.

Good luck Charli

I cannot help you with your query but I just wanted to wish you and your hubby all the very best and hope that your baby is delivered safely. Not long now so you must both be very excited, even though somewhat anxious too I imagine.

It sounds as though your doctors are taking no chances and you will all be well looked after. I have to admit I hadn't heard of CPVT but having now looked it up it does sound as though it needs close follow up, although I see your husband is being managed with beta blockers alone or does he have an ICD ??

Please let us know how everything goes and take good care of the little one

You know you're wired when...

You invested in the Energizer battery company.
