First Difib fire

My hubbys difib fired for the first time since he had it fitted 6 weeks ago and he has spent 3 days in hospital. As far as we are aware it was down to a stressful situtation in our local supermarket and the doctors said he must walk away from these situations in future. He started to blackout and then it fired. Thank god it did. We were told at the hospital it saved his life!!!

His heart was beating 300bmp.

He is now home and they have upped his meds.

Thank god he is one of the lucky people who had this device fitted.

Encouragement?

Geez Zombie! Your a very encouraging soul...but really i'm sorry to hear about your stress level and what you have to try to deal with..

Scotter,
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's experience. As you said though, it kept him here with you and that's why you decided to get an implant. Your husband may have problems adjusting to the experience of being shocked...anxiety and depression are common. When we first get them, it's the fear of the unknown; what's it going to feel like. Now that he knows what it feels like, he may have to deal with the fear of reassurances, unless he is one of the lucky ones who does not really feel the jolt. If he does begin demonstrating anxiety over getting zapped again encourage him to seek therapeutic help and don't be adverse to the medications out there that make it a little easier to live through.

We are hear for you as well as him if he needs us. As for you...hang in there. All of us know how hard it is on our loved ones. Know that we care,

Hugs,
joy

It has alot of good information for explaining what your husband may expect to experience not only following being implanted with ICD but after being shocked.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
