256 BPM OH DEAR
by pete - 2009-03-14 03:03:56
That tachycardia needs immediate attention. It almost certainly will lead to heart failure if not sorted .
Again I cant help thinking you should be made pacemaker dependant with an AV node ablation. I had a rate of 180 BPM and that nearly led to fatal heart failure. It was a miracle I survived. I cant help feeling that only a cardiac resynchronisation pacemaker and an AV node ablation will get you out of trouble. Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Cheers Peter

Peace of mind?

Craig,
Your instincts are good about getting other opinions. A good doctor will not do dangerous surgery for "peace of mind". Another thing is, a pacemaker usually does not help the "skipped beats" or PVC's PAC's, AFIB, etc. Sometimes it can help indirectly, but they should have explained to you it wouldn't help with most arrhythmias.
If the docs are afraid your heart block is severe and frequent enough to cause fainting, that could possibly justify a pacemaker. It's not real common, but yours may be in that category.
Where are you located? I know an excellent EP in LFT Louisiana.
you need a new doctor

I work in the medical field, I have never heard of a cardiologist being ok with a hr of 256. Why don't you look at a teaching hospital, or a hospital that does open heart surgeries. They tend to have the best cardiologist. Sorry you are having these issues.
You know you're wired when...
Jerry & The Pacemakers is your favorite band.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
Where do you live?
