I send a reading over the phone every three months but my doctor refuses to tell me the results. His hospital uses a no news is good news policy. He says they will only contact me if there are problems. This makes me feel uneasy. Any one out there had same experience?

The answer to this depends on your location. If you are in the US you have a right to your medical records. If you are in the states, I suggest writing a letter to the doctor with copy to the hospital sent registered mail with return receipt requesting that a copy of your telephone checkup be sent to you within a week.

You could also pick up a copy of the Patients Rights document that they are required to have available. Refer to it in the request.

I had one situation where I went to pick up a copy of a CT Scan and they refused to give it to me without the doctors OK. I returned with a letter in hand and was immediately handed the written report and 24 hours later picked up a computer disk with the actual pictures.

If you aren't in the US you will need to investigate your rights.

Records

Like Frank says, in the US you have a right to those records. I believe as a retired health care worker (RN) that statement by your provider is a bunch of hogwash. Believe me things can be lost between the cracks. Even if you don't totally understand the report there are many people here who could help you interpret the results if you had questions. dottodot

I have never had a problem, they have a note on file that I want my results. so when I transmit it in every 3 months, I get a copy of the results in the mail in a few days. Also when I go in to see the Doctor once a year I get a copy of the results. The only time I had aproblem was when I was in the hospital for hand surgery and two nurses came in to check my PM before surgery, I asked for a copy and the one nurse said it was not their policy to give me one. She left the room and the other nurse ran me off a copy and gave it to me.

Hi

I have never heard of that in the us,Every time i get my PM checked they give me a copy of th resultas and if i have a qustion are vry happy to answer it,You always have the right to your own test results and medical records in the us .I would assume that would be the same everywhere but i could be wrong after all its you body and health they are dealing with,
Good luck

Thanks to you all I live in the UK but we do have a right to copy of medical records. I will have to try harder or switch doctors!

After I transpmit the information I call and I leave a message for them to call me back to let me know what is going on. With in a few hours they would call me back. I ask all kinds of questions. I haven't thought about getting the results by mail. In 6 months I might ask them to mail the results to me.
