Heart skipping and jumping since pacemaker

Hello again,
Thank you for the responses, especially Angelie, very helpful. I can see this is a terrific site for new folks who are afraid and wondering if they are the only ones having problems. I am hoping that my heart will settle down in time. I did call my pacemaker clenic and they want me to come in for a check since it has only been 2 weeks since the implant.
Does anyone have experience flying- are the machines you walk through a problem? I fly next week and don't know if I should just walk and hope I don't set them off or tell them and have to wait for a hand search.
Thanks and happy new year all.
Vicki

Security Check Points

by ElectricFrank - 2009-01-05 10:01:46

From the posts here most people don't seem to have a problem going through airport screening. However, since you have been having some problems it is a good idea to avoid the machines. A lead problem can make the pacemaker a lot more sensitive to interference.

You should have a card that identifies you as a pacemaker patient. Show it to security.

Airport Security

I wouldn't think you can go through without telling airport security you have a pacemaker as I am sure their scanning system would set off an alarm by the pacemaker device when you walked through. Best to advise them or if you are worried, call the airport security prior to you leaving and discuss it with them.
Good luck.

Flying With Pacer

Flying with a pacer is not a problem. You walk up and tell them that you have a pacer. They will have you put your stuff on the belt and then have you walk around the machine for a hand pat down. Never let them use the wand. It is worse than the machine. I have never been asked for my pacemaker card. You don't need to call anyone in advance. Airports are quite used to people with pacemakers. It's no big deal.

Fly away!!

Hi there, i got my pm 30 oct and have made 4 flights now, no problem whatsoever. I just mentioned at check in that id recently got a pm and i was upgraded to front seats on one flight, no cost.

Two of the flights at check in gave ma a quick frisk and ran the hand held scanner over me, the other two just let me walk through with a small search.

As you approach the scanner just have your card available, tell the person you have a pm and they just divert you round the side of the scanner, no problems at all. The pm cards are recognised world wide so theres no language problems.

Good luck and happy flying!!

You know you're wired when...

You have a dymo-powered bike.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
