New here

I like what I see so far here. Seems like you guys know what you are taking about. My cardiologist mentioned this site to me and I thought I'd check it out.
I do have one question. I'm thinking about changing doctors because I think I would feel more comfortable with a male doctor. Which is what prompts me to ask this question here. I just couldn't bring myself to ask her. I felt myself getting red just thinking about it and I could not ask. I left the office still with questions.I'm 55, don't seem to have too much of a problem down there, except the standard age stuff. I was otherwise healthy until last month I had an ekg which showed some tachycardia. The next thing I knew they installed this defibrillator that will shock me they say. I don't really understand why I needed this thing in the first place. I'm married, but am now scared to have sex with my wife. After hearing what the doctors tell me I'm scared to do much of anything that increases my heart rate or anything strenuous like sex. I'm also fear that this medicine they want me to take will make me have dysfunction. I'm not 18 anymore, if you know what I'm talking about.
Does strenous activity cause a shock. I don't know if I like this thing that they put inside me. I can see how it might cause more harm than good. I don't know. I'm scared that my wife is going to get mad with me. What does a shock feel like. They say they shocked me while I was in surgery, but I don't remember it.
Thank you, Michael

I just had my pacemaker installed on Nov 4, and never got to vote. I am not sure what I think of this thing either. I am going back to exercising in the pool this week and since Before the PM I had lost 59 lbs I want to lose the rest and I need to exercise to do that. No one at the doctors office is seeing if my pacemaker is ok or working fine do they need to do that? It seems like they would. My insurance company is new and the bill was 128,000 and I have no prior problems accept a little high blood pressure and started taking some cholesterol meds in Sept and I was weaning myself off them and then boom I went to emergency and here I am. They are not approving any medical for me because they think they have been scamed when I feel I have because I had insurance and because their's was cheaper I took that since I had been laid off. Well you know it rains and then it pours. I am sure they will work things out but in the mean time I just want to make sure its ok. My doctor said he wasnt sure why they put it in since it only happened once but he did say at least if I have a heart attack I will have my own defibulator. Any comments on new pacemaker folks? Thanks

Thanks Cabg Patch !!

Thanks man! That's reassuring. Maybe my wife will still be able to put up with me after all.

That someone has maybe helped ya out by replying to your post.
I saw your post yesterday, and hestitated. I figured, I'd let the guys handle your questions.
There's a lot I can't help you with, being female, and I ain't got a ICD, but I wanted to offer my welcome to you and this:
If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, especially if you've been using her for quite some time, I guess it would be a benefit to you both if you changed. That's just something that you're going to have to decide upon yourself.
Wishing you well while you adjust to your new life with the ICD, and hoping your wife doesn't give you too hard of a time. LOL!
Good luck, and welcome,
Angelie

I think that you have the right cardio

If your cardio mentioned this site, I think that you have the right cardio. Doctors are often bashed on this site and if she mentioned this site, seems to me she can take a bashing and keep on ticking.

I changed cardios after the PM installation but not because of gender but because I felt that I wasn't getting good care.

I would stick with her a while and evaluate the care that you are getting before you change.

Later, Charlie
