Electrical Experts - Leads tested fine

Okay, I have a puzzling question to those engineers out there.

Had a pacer installed 5/8 - not working. (This is my 3rd) Went in this week and had a revision done. Bottom line is pacer moved to the right side and new leads from there into the heart.

When they opened the left side, the pacer and leads checked out okay by themselves when they used the testing devices; however, the heart was not responding to any pacing. This lack of response seemed to be a degradation over...

lead compromised

curious to know what sort of replies to this:
Can compromised ventrical lead cause shortness of breath? Plumber (cardio doctor) says not and electrician (PM doctor) doesn't say anything!!!
What's your input. Cath. says NO blockages and existing stents are clear.
Have 6/21 appt but just curious as to what you guys have to say.

New Leads, it is

First, thank you to Don R & Frank as they lead me through the pacer maze to come to the right conclusion - have my R turned off and my upper and lower limits reset.

I went into the cardios office today and got the records from my old pacer. I then went to see a tech and asked for my numbers to be set the same, including turning the R off, which is how my older pacer was.

Then I also explained since I had once again passed out, I felt my remaining lead might be compromi...

battery

Thank you for the input. I dont seem to be on top of my pacemaker dilemma, Im clling the cardiologist tomorrow to get details on my end of life in the battery. Im worried about getting it replaced but Im crazy tired the last month and think its time. 2 months after initial implantation in 2003 I ripped my leads out during a skatebord collision with my son while i waswalkind down the street. It has not paced properly since the replantation tachycardias and trips to the er for heart attack symptom...

Heart pain after PM paces me- OUCH

Hi All,

Sincerly hope everyone on here is coping and doing well with their PM's. This group has been a life-line for me.

My issue that I wanted to ask you all about is if you have this happen to you.

I had my PM inserted in Oct 2010. Lots of issues with the surgery, blah blah.... (won't bore you with the details here)
But now I find when I am being paced, once the PM stops pacing I get these serious heart pains/cramping feeling and it is almost rhythmic. It...

My own looped lead

Reading and responding to the message re looped lead led to a question of my own. My atrial lead was not secured to the wall of the ventrical. Cardio surgeon felt that there is more danger of damage to the heart wall. The lead was deliberately looped so that the point rests in the correct area. This did cause a problem as it moved and the voltage had to be increased for a period. At last check up it seemed it had moved back as voltage could be decreased again to .2.
Is this common practice...

Bipolar vs unipolar

Hi all,
My recent pacer implant called for some changes to be made to try and get more battery life so lead/current were changed from unipolar to bipolar. My first check showed episodes of v tach. My ep was afraid my heart did not like the configuration so he changed it back to unipolar. I am not feeling any better but think it may be related to rate response levels. I believe it is set to low.

My question is this, has anyone experienced this change and if so did they have any...

EnRhythm batteries?

I asked the tech today how much of my battery life was left (I had my Medtronic pacemaker implanted 1 1/2 ago). She said that some EnRhythms had been going into some other mode (sort of failing unexpectedly early) and she couldn't tell me how much of my battery was left?!?! What is up with this?

Lead ExtractionMRI with ICD

Had my SprintFidelis pulled on Tuesday on the opening day of the new Johns Hopkins Hospital. Been waiting for this for a long time, but he wouldn't do it until the ICD hit EOL. The procedure took place in the new EPCath room which is a hybrid room (doubles as the OR, just in case.) BTW, pre-EOL I had an MRI done with this ICD (JHU does about 4-6 of them safely each day, I was informed.) After removal of the battery and leads, had a 3D mapping MRI done right after to confirm a diagnosis. Prett...

just plain run down

Anyone experiencing this? Was told that I had bad ventrical lead last December. Still have had nothing done about it (not pacer dependent). Tried to do unipolar vs bipolar but didn’t work and was put back like it was originally. Am told that they are pacing ONLY the ATRIUM (since January).

Lately I feel awful!   Just plain tired and run down with basically no energy at all. Settings are at 60bpm (low) and 130 bpm (high).  HR seems to want to stay from 60bpm to 70...

Can they easily be dislodged?...

Hi there,

I am 18 and a Senior in High School.  I had my PM implanted on March 28, 2012; so approximately 5 weeks ago.  My pacemaker guy told me to wait 3-4 weeks before I move my arm above shoulder level (90 degrees) but my electrophysiologist, who did the surgery, told me to wait 6 weeks before I moved it.

I am in my show choir and my last choir concert is tomorrow.  Earlier this week I started dancing again even though it hasn’t been 6...

Answers, Finally

Good morning all. Back to the cardio yet again yesterday. The medtronic Rep has finally compiled all of his research and it turns out that my lead needs to be replaced. I have less than 2 years of battery life left on my current Pacer, so his recommendation is to extract the old leads and then just replace the whole works all at once.
Waiting to hear from the surgeon for my consult now.
Should hopefully be all fixed up in a matter of a week it two now.
Thank you for all of your in...

Lead Issues - St. Jude Lead

You guys are probably going to get really tired of hearing from me. I consider myself incredibly lucky that I have gone almost 25 years with no issues caused by my PM, but now that there are issues I am constantly looking for advice.
Just found out that one of my leads is a St. Jude lead. I did some research, which I should not have done I guess, and found out that there have been recalls on some of their models. I have no idea what model mine is, as I just found out recently that it is...

Lead Movement

Good evening all. I posted a message the other day about having issues with one of my leads (switching polarities and fluctuating impedances). Still no answers there, but now I have another concern.
When I had my first surgery back in '86 they did the implant right under the surface of the skin. The whole works was trying to come through my skin, though, so they buried everything under the muscle.
Today I discovered that I can feel one of my leads. I have a bit of discomfort, but I ca...
