Travel Insurance

Hi - I was able to get travel insurance when I had a pacemaker and enjoyed holidays overseas. Now I have a Medtronic Defibrillator and have been rejected when applying for travel insurance. Has anyone been successful in securing insurance - would love to hear from you - I want to go to Japan. Thanks, Richard

Richard,
I traveled to Japan last December, and when I bought my ticket through Expedia, I purchased the travel insurance through them. It covered emergency medical, return transportation for myself and family members if needed...a whole host of issues were covered, and I wasn't asked any health questions. The other thought may be coverage through Medic Alert. I don't know what they offer, but it's a thought.

H i Richard,
Here in the UK it is possible to get insurance if you have an ICD. I have had mine for 4 years and have travelled abroad many times after completing a six month period to show that things were stable. I have to agree with Bambi regarding the importance of having the proper cover.
If (& hopefully not) you were in need of medical care connected with your ICD when in another country you would probably find that if you hadn't made your insurance company aware of a pre exIsting condition they would not pay out.
I know some companies agree to get you home but that is only if it is a condition that has arisen of which you had no knowledge. I'm sure that you won't get a penny if you withhold any information from any insurance policy. It could cost you a fortune.
I would never travel without the proper cover and for approx £75 for a year period, no matter how many times I travel, I think it is a must.
I could give you several companies to contact but I don't know if they operate in Australia.
Be careful with your decision, a relatively small outlay could save you an awful lot of expense.

Good luck & worry free travelling,
Lesley

Referred to Bambi in my post - should have said Chrissie. Sorry to cause any confusion.
