its been a year since I got my defibrillator/pacemaker put in and I am so tired all the time. Anyone have any suggestions or is it just me. I don't know if it's the meds I went on but it is very frustrating. Thanks for any input

meds

There's nothing about having an icd that should make you tired, it's just there as a back up. If you are also pacing, it's possible your settings need adjusted. What meds are you on? A lot of them will make you tired. I just spent 5 weeks on an itty bitty baby dose of metoprolol and I napped every day, it was awful!
You should check with your doctor, and if it's been a year it can't hurt to get a physical to rule out something else.
Tired All Of The Time

Hi.
You didn't mention what drugs you were on. Some beta blockers are famous for making one feel tired.
I too have never felt the same since receiving my pacer 5 yrs ago, always tired, but I NEVER stopped complaining to any doctor I saw and today is my big day....I get to see an EP. This past summer I demanded I got to wear a Loop Recorder, sometimes called an Event Recorder, and sure as heck...I was right, they have found something. SO...it wasn't all in my head like most doctors thought. Then I also found out that my pacemaker is allowing my heart beats to go BELOW my lowest setting of 60, so something is definitely wrong.
I guess my message to you is to NEVER give up hope and get on your doctors like I did. Even if that means going for a 2nd or a 3rd opinion.

sleep study

OMG, I totally forgot about that! I did read somewheres years ago that a certain % of people with pacemakers will or can develop sleep apnea.
what a terrific suggestion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sleep Study

My PM was implanted a year ago too and I can now exercise strenuously at the gym and power walk 2 miles - but I too am always tired - particularly if I skip a day or two of exercise. My EP says all is well with PM and ECG and cardiologist says echo is fine .... so ... they have suggested I get a sleep study done. So my first "consult" is Dec 23rd. I snore terribly and when I wake up I am really congested. So the sleep study should prove interesting .. does this ring any bells for you? Just a thought ...will keep you posted ..
Heart Meds are the culprit

I,ve had an icd/PM for about 8 years now. I actually felt more energy than I did after I had it put in. I later had Medtronic adjust and fine tune the device and felt more energy than before. If you are on beta-blockers and meds like Amiodorone antiarrithmia drugs, that more likely to make you feel tired. I t takes time for your body to adjust. I also believe in mind over matter, sometimes that makes me wake up and smell the coffee. Good Luck

I had a pacemaker since 2002 and ever since then my life has been a total blessing.
What meds...

...are you on? If you went on beta-blockers, they sure could be the culprit. I used to take Toprol XL and was always feeling sluggish and tired.
