Spasms from Biventricular Pacemaker

Hi...

Since I've had my AV node ablation and biventricular pacemaker implanted last Oct, at times I seem to get spasms in my heart area and around my stomach. Everything will seem fine, then all of a sudden I feel my chest start pulsating for no particular reason. I mentioned it to my EP and he and a tech readjusted the settings on my PM and it seemed somewhat better. He said the other alternative would be to go in and try to relocate my leads. I try to get used to these spasms since I don't care to have another procedure done. Just wondered if anyone else has the same problems and could offer some advice. I've even tried stretching in that area as a way of possibly shifting my leads....with no success. I figure that I'm not the only one with this issue.....Thanks for any ideas or help......Claudia

My stomach was pulsating when they fitted my biventricular pacemaker. Before stitching up the site they pulled out the lead leading over the top of my heart and down to pace the left ventricle and put in a different lead. The surgeon was not to happy as he said the original lead was in a good position.(Ithought "how can it be") However I still found that my stomach would start pacing / contracting quite often and it was a very annoying and uncomfortable feeling. It was difficult to get to sleep as my normal position for "going off to sleep would almost certainly induce the problem". When I went for the pacing check the surgeon suggested some further alterations to the settings. This reduced the frequency of the unwanted stomach pacing but it still did not go away completely. After about 5 months the problem stopped and I am doing fine. ( Please note I also had an AV node ablation 6 weeks after the pacemaker implantation) . I think in your case that they could try some more adjustments as there are a lot of things they can tweak and adjust. Its unreasonable to expect you to just put uop with it. Best wishes Peter

I do not have the feelings in my stomach but do feel the pacemaker when I try to sleep on that side or if I just go to raise my left arm......When I asked why it was so large they said they could always go back in and put behind a muscle so it would not stick out (almost thru) the skin....I will not do that since there is no way that I want any more surgery there or anyplace for that matter.
