Question

I have had my pm since June of 05. Since then I have noticed that while I am asleep, I involuntarily flex all my muscles at the same time I swear you could use me as scafolding and I clamp my jaw so tight I think I am breaking teeth. Its so bad I wake up. Never did it before the pm and after reading some stories about twitching from the pm....just wondering?

I am seeing the cardiologist and the pacer clinic March 17th and I will ask them about that then. I will also see if it happens at the same time. Can you tell me who the DH is? Designated Hitee, Dear/Dumb Husband?
Thanks so much, Boatman

I'm glad you'll be going to see your cardio. The newer pacemakers are so "high tech" that my EP didn't realize that my impedance check was set at 7volts and that, added with a unipolar wire was giving me quite a jolt. Let's say I didn't want to be holding a cup of coffee at the time.

"DH"....I guess any of those definitions will do.....LOLOL Until I had the check turned off, the poor guy definitely was the designated hitee! LOL
Dear husband suits him best, I think. He's been my best support system for 30 years.
Good luck in timing and tracking your muscle contractions.
I hope it's something they can help you with.
Best to you,
Gellia

I wonder. Could you check and see if it is the same time each night? I had three shocks from my PM every three hours, until I had my EP turn the impedance check off, and it would really make my pec. muscle contract and cause my arm to "fling" out. Poor DH got smacked if he was nearby! LOL
Most of the time this is caused by unipolar wires and the pacemaker body completing the electrical circuit. If there is a nerve or muscle nearby, it can contract from the stimulation.
If you can, see if you can time the spasm. If it occurs each night at the same time, it may be the pacer going through its check. Your EP may be able to turn this feature off or perhaps lower the voltage.
Best of luck to you,
Gellia
