Feeling Weird Since They Changed my Settings

Hi guys, first post. I'm post pacemaker 2 1/2 months. I went to the hospital to meet a new cardiologist last Thursday. They said that it was doing the pacing 89 percent of the time. For fear of the battery dying out to fast, they changed the settings to let my heart beat if it could before the pacemaker kicked in. I told them that it felt strange and that I really noticed it right away while I was still there. They said it was probably in my head. I'm here, Monday, totally feels like when I'm in the office and they are interrogating the device. A weird feeling, pounding, fluttering, heaviness. Any thoughts? Will this go away? Should I call tomorrow? I'm new at this. I just started feeling normal for the first time before they changed the settings. I'm sad they did it only because I feel so weird now. Thanks!

It's great to try to maximize battery life and give the heart time to beat on its own, but only if you feel good. You gave it a few days, I'd call and ask them to put it back.

Battery life

I agree with Tracey_E - you tried it for a reasonable amount of time and it isn't working for you, so you want it put back to how it was.

I am 100% paced, and had my pacemaker 4 years now.  Though the predicitions of battery life are only estimates, and indeed can go up as well as down, at my 4th anniversary checkup they said I have "at least 3 years more battery life left".  Though I have no choice in my level of pacing, whether the battery lasts 6, 7 or 8 years isn't a biggie for me - it is more important for it to be making a difference to my quality of life now.  I think you would be fully justified in insisting if they resist.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think you are right I've given it enough time. I will call tomorrow to ask for them to change it for me. Battery life isn't worth this for sure.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
