New device and New member!

Hello fellow Pacers! I am a new member to this prestigious Club and a new ICD device patient...I am a 48 year-old male and single father of a 14 year old son. Just got my new CRT-D device on Dec. 26, 2018...Merry Christmas to me! Haha...I was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy due to a viral infection which I also had as a child...Everything went well with my surgery and my 2 week checkup went great and I get my staples out in 2 weeks... I am blessed with a great team of Cardiologists...I have been reading several comments on here the past couple of weeks and decided I needed to join...and I think it is great that we have a forum and a place for all of us to go to and lean on each other for advice and support. Wish me luck on my new life after ICD implant! -Proud new member and survivor! 👍

Welcome!

I have had a pacemaker for 4 years now, and had no issues but joined here to learn more and what SHOULD I be aware of for the future.  There are some great contributors who are very patient and generous with their time, and I have learnt a lot such that I now make a few comments too in the hope of reassuring newbies that life is usually good after getting one.  Not least because by the nature of such forums it is when people have a problem they [rightly] come here for some pointers.  When you think over 300,000 cardiac devices are inserted every year it is remarkable how few need to come here really.

Welcome. You've come to the right place.

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
