Recovery

Has anyone out there experienced night sweats occasionally since pacemaker procedure? I had this happen to me twice. One being last night. I woke up at around 3am soaked in sweat.

I am post menopausal having a hysterectomy 5 years ago, so it's not hormonal.

When I called my cardiologist/electrophysiologist, his nurse practitioner said she had never heard of night sweats post pacemaker procedure.

She thinks I must have a "bug" and ran a fever and it broke. I don't believe it because this is the second time in 10 days I have experienced night sweats.

Really bizarre.

Are you diabetic?

I can have night sweats if my blood sugar level goes too low (ie a hypoglycemic incident).  But unusual unless you are on medication for this I think.  I am on insulin injections and Metformin tablets.

I wonder if it can happen if it was a long time since you ate carbs?

Sorry not to be more help.

Night sweats

Among the things that happened to me after I got my pacemaker there were two things I did notice.  1) Better heart activity and a regular heart beat. 2) Better sleep because I had better heart activity and a regular heart beat.   So what did that mean?

I was accustomed to going to bed and being cold, mainly because I wasn't getting a good heartbeat.  So I'd pile on the coverlets and blanket.  Since I was cold all the time I wasn't getting good sleep and I was waking up several times a night.

After I got my pacemaker I'd still feel cold when I went to bed and would pile on the coverlets and blankets as I used to but now, with the pacemaker, I'd go to sleep and really sleep, and I was getting a better heartbeat so my body temperature was higher.  Consequently I'd wake up sweating because I had more coverlets and blankets than I needed, and with the deeper sleep I wasn't moving as much so I'd just stay under the blankets and just sweat.  So I wasn't having "night sweats"  per se, but I was waking up sweating.  Took me a few months to figure out I didn't need to wear as much to bed and I didn't  need as many coverlets and blankets.  Once I got that adjusted, I no longer woke up with the "night sweats".

Hope this is the same thing that is happening to you.  I hope you have a good adjustment to your pacemaker.

Night Sweats

I just had bloodwork, so I am not diabetic. Great news.

Wow. I never thought about too many covers but I believe that's what is going on with me. I used to be cold in bed and piled on lots of heavy covers.

I have not had another "night sweat" since taking off some of the covers. That was the problem all along.

All kinds of thoughts was going through my head about what could be wrong.

Thanks for giving me some good advice.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
