Kids & Pacemakers

My son is 21 he has had a pacemaker since age two. We let him live a pretty much normal life. No contact sports, But he has a brown belt in karate, Also played played baseball since age 5. Now at age 21 his softball team is ranked second in Indiana NSA. Also he works full time as a asst manager at a local store and goes to college full time and is on the Deans List. We are very proud of him. So parents with special kids good things do happen just love them and be there for them. Our son was also fed with a feeding tube till age 4

Kids with PM

Fantastic.
We have got two sons, the youngest now 7 got pacemaker 6 weeks old after operative treatment for congenite heart disease.
The kid is doing very well at school and indoor sports and has an incredible sense of humor.
1½ year ago we had a bad period with infection/ bad healing of wound after shift of the pulse generator.
He got 3 pacemakers in 3 months and before he had the last he waited almost 4 weeks with external PM to get rid of the problem.
Never the less he loves the hospital and long for going there again " even though I 've got to do blood test and get anaestesia", as he says.
Unfortunately he has another complication which has come 3 - 4 times a year where he had got dilatation of superior Cava vein.
But I get so happy of hearing how good older kids manage their life. It makes me get courage to belive in a good future for both of my kids. And also to keep most of the worries stay away.

An offer of encouragement

I just wanted to drop you both a note of encouragement. I got my 1st pm @ age 2 and am now 43. I have two beautiful health happy children and have always led a very full and productive life. Baseball didn't work out as well for me but I do rock climb, whitewater kayak, cycle, and much more. I've gone through most of the same issues you describe, infections, lead failure, PM failure, and so on and have managed through it. Life is full of challenges, be thankful that we live in times where this one is surmountable with the right technology, encouragement, and attitude. It sounds like you're all doing a wonderful job.

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
