Sensitively adjustment

I was contacted by my cardiologist s nurse that He has seen some missed bests on my heart monitor. He would like me to come in and have an adjustment to the sensitivity rate. Says he thinks that might be the cause of my missed beats and shortness of breath and heart flutters. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks!

I don't have any information specifically on your situation but it's very common to adjust the settings both when it's new and down the road as things change. They start us off with a good guess but we are all different and it is normal to take a few tries to get it fine tuned to our needs.

Sensitivity rate

These two words, together, are confusing.

On one side, the "capture threshold" may be set too high. This is the electrical level where the PM "sees", or "captures" the signal from the heart. Set too high and the PM "misses" beats. These "missed" beats are only missed by the PM so shouldn't cause these symptoms.

In the other direction, "capture threshold" has the opposite meaning. The "capture threshold" is the point where the heart muscle responds to the pacemaker's signal. If the voltage generated by the PM isn't large enough to stimulate the heart, skipped beats are possible and your symptoms make sense. Increasing this voltage would fix the problem.

However, he wouldn't be adjusting the "sensitivity" of anything.  He's got no knobs to turn on the heart muscle. "Sensitivity rate" makes no sense at all.

Thanks for the comments. I have an appointment Monday so will see how it goes! Something is off for sure.
