It's the chat window. If the chat window crashes or doesn't properly shutdown, it still lists you as being online. Sometimes it double lists you.
If you don't see activity, there probably isn't anyone there.

I think it's where internet spiders hang out .....bit like my childrens' rooms ...no sign of activity ..they're there somewhere or were ...but only spiders move among the shadows ....

Every time I got to the chat room, there's a gazillion names listed stating that they are in the chat room, but no one ever chats.
I've just figured it had something to do with my computer's internet settings. Don't know.
