Hi there good buddies
My son who has a leaking heart valve and ??? having a replacement, is having a monitor implanted next week to monitor his heart rate. He has been told that this is very similar to having a pm implanted. I cannot see the logic of this being done, he may as well as a 24hr heart monitor for the same reason.
Can anyone enlighten me as to this procedure. We live in England by the way. If we lived in the U.S.A. I would of thought it was one of those where hospitals can trace your heart reading from home.
Any advice is most welcome

Loop Recorder

It is a very small device called a loop recorder place near the center of the chest. One lead connects it to the heart.
I had one prior to my pacemaker implant. It is much more sensitive device and relays more information then a holter or other external monitor can.
Very simple procedure I think mine took all of 10 minutes.
My cardio refers to it as the bodys black box. It provides valuable information for your doctors.
Great tool - I'd wouldn't hesitate getting it done.

I had one implanted (medtronics) it can stay in place for up to 3 years and gives the MD more information on future therapy. I now have my pacemaker but also they could tell where my rhythm issue was coming from so they could plan therapy better. I have a friends whose daughter has one in place for a year because her issues are infrequent and they need more information. It was a very minor procedure-I had mine done under local anesthesia. Good luck
