Christmas

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Christmas. Just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Oh I was also wondering if anyone ever had any problems with going to the dentist and their equipment......I went today and the lady was working with me was really dumb. So I just want to make sure that I was not around anything that would interfere.

Trip to the Dentist

Hi, Britt.

I know my dentist will no longer use the ultrasonic cleaner on me due to the magnets it uses--doesn't mix with the pacer! Also...some pacers take antibiotics before going to the dentist to avoid getting an infection that would travel through the blood stream via a cut in the mouth etc. My EP told me that I don't have to take the antibiotics for routine visits, but I had to when I went to the dentist just a couple of weeks after getting my first pacer (just to be sure). I know some pacers have to take them regardless due to their condition (pacer related or not).

Also...ALWAYS remind your dentist and the assistant that you have a pacemaker before they start anything. Don't just assume they should know even if it is marked on your chart with big, red warnings....I'm allergic to latex and have the pacer and it is marked with big red letters quite clearly on my chart...yet they forgot last time and started using latex etc. What a mess. I was quite upset and my whole throat swelled up etc.

Other than that...you should be okay!

FYI...my sister is a dental asst., too, and with the new technology out there, no one should be choosing amalgam (silver filling) because of the mercury in them. Choose composite for fillings instead!!!!!!

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.
