New guy

Im new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I’m a 33 yo Marine that was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome. I had an ICD implanted in Feb of 07. I found this site while doing some research for myself and have been on it for a few hours reading. It’s comforting to know that other people have had the same question, concerns and things that I have had. Most of the time I feel like I’m on my own. It’s been a long year adjusting to this. I have always been very active and involved in the outdoors. Most of the time I’ve done research on my own to see what I can and can’t do. That’s it in a nutshell. There is a lot of good info here, thanks

Hi Billy and welcome. I also have a ICD and LQTS. I have found this sight to be helpful and it nice to talk to people that can relate to your situation. Do you have any other family with LQTS?

Right now Im the only one with LQTS. My grandfather died at 49 of a heart condtion, we dont know for sure what it was. Based off of info Ive found and what my Dr has said It could have been LQTS. I did have to get my two girls tested and my brother and sister were also tested, so far so good. Im not sure if I could handle them going thru what I have. My mom has a PM for a different condition, I cant remeber the name.

I am glad you have discovered that you are not alone! I was 42 when I got my AV Block diagnosis that led to a PM. It was quite a shock and took some getting used to (to say the least). Have you been able to resume some of the activities that you loved? This is a great site with lots of encouragement, support and information. Welcome to the club.

Hi Billy,

This is a great site where you get plenty of answers and a lot of encouragement and motivation. Since you are new you might want to go to the "bio" section and add more info. I especially like to check whenever I see a new name online (you just click on that persons name in the "who's online" box), and you can find out where they are from, what interests they have, how many devices they have had, how recent their last implant, etc - but only if the profile is completed. You can also use the "search" link in the top corner to find postings on a variety of topics. Then you can pm (send a personal message) that person so as not to clutter up the main page with chitchat.

I just wanted to say welcome to the club. This is such a wonderful site, so very helpful.
I joined this club in June after I got my first PM at the age of 31 for fainting, everyone has been so helpful and caring.

Nice to have you aboard, Billy. This is such a great side with so many people willing to share their experiences. Welcome to the "fam!" Never fear to post a question because someone will answer or at least try...you are not alone!

I hope you've been able to enjoy some of your old activities again. I know that I felt so much better when I got cleared to start hiking again. It feels good to be active and to get outdoors. Your energy is better, your attitude is better, and there is just something about fresh air! I got my pm at 29 and will be 31 this year. You'll find that there are a lot of us "young folk" around here, too!

My step-dad was in the Navy for 25 years...he always would say of the Marines that "them fellas were made for the fighting and we just gave them a lift to where they needed to go!" :)
