Airport Security

When you go through airport security does everyone show their card? or just when they walk through and set off the alarm? I walk through and have not set off an alarm yet, just curious to see what everyone else does. I don't know anyone that has a PM so I don't know what the Standard Operating Procedure is. Thanks. I just walk through airport security and have never set it off. If I'm singled out, I flash the card and don't let them wand me as per my Dr.'s instructions.

I don't have to show my card, but tell them I need to be patted down as I have a PM. They will get a woman officer to pat me down. It is always done in a professional manner and is a piece of cake.

I have been having this done for 6 years now and it is just the way it is. I was told that the screener system was more sensitive than the ones in dept. stores and it might cause me to problems with my PM, if I went through it. I just follow the Dr. instructions and all goes well.

Take care,

Ok, I lied....

I never flash the card either.

When I'm singled out of line, I just tell them that I have a PM and they pat me down. It's never been a problem. One security guy was concerned and said that I shouldn't have walked through the device, that i should have told him before. He was just trying to be helpful, but I told him that my PM's manufacturer said that it is OK to go through the metal detector.

I have NOT gone through a detector at the airport since I got my PM. I hold the card up and someone comes to me and usually says to me, "Wait right here" and they return in a second and take me on in for a female to hand search me. They also ask if I want the search done in private; I never do. I've flown about 6 flights since getting the PM and all screeners and searchers have been very nice and professional. I know the drill now, so after they pat me down, I sit down; take off my socks and they check my feet. Could get to be a stinky job for them, I think? LOL

I did have a terrible experince at the county courthouse where I live. The nice policeman insisted on waning me, on my right side and I instinctively threw my arm up (Thank God I didn't accidentally hit him) This was after I told him I had a PM and couldn't be waned.
He finally let me go on through w/o further waning. When I returned from the tax office and started to leave I explained more fully to him why I could not be waned and he said his Sheriff had told him he had to wand all even if it killed them! ( I still don't know exactly what he meant by this)
DUH!
He said I just waned your right side. I said to him what if you had killed me? I talked very professional to him and he to me, both of us without anger. However when I got home I shot off a very interesting
e mail to his boss and got a good one back. It shouldn't have happened so said the Sheriff. It won't happen again I know that. Enough of my rambling........

I've only flown twice since getting my pm and both times I told them I had a pm and they just patted me down. I've never taken my card out of my wallet.

Both times that I have flown post implant, I have gone through the "pat down" process quicker than my wife who stayed in the long line that went through the magnetic portal

Card at the ready, but not needed

by sboissonnas - 2008-01-30 11:01:12

My first flight post-PM implant was last June (I posted about it elsewhere on here because it went so smoothly). I live in Chicago and was flying out of O'Hare - a pretty busy airport with a massive security setup. I was told by my doctors not to go through the gates or to get wanded, so I needed to request a manual check. I was nervous and had my card at the ready, explanations at hand, practicing in my head to sound as polite and non-troublesome as possible...

When I got up to the front of the line I thrust my card at the security guard and stammered out something about needing a pat-down. She looked down at the card, looked up at me and said, "Oh honey, we don't need to see the card. Nobody ever ASKS to be patted down!"

I still get my card ready anyway, just in case, but they must see -hundreds- of PM recipients each and every day over there. At smaller airports, the security folks have once or twice stopped to look at the card or ask me a question ("Oh yeah, you got one of those things in ya?") but it's never been any trouble anywhere. Also, being polite and courteous often does wonders with people who are used to being complained at all day...

I have flown at least 4 times since my pm and have always had my card at the ready. They looked at my card all but 1 time. The pat down was very professional and not a problem at all. They even teased me about being ready for my foot massage.

First round trip

by bilcal - 2008-02-14 03:02:21

I made my first round trip after PM implant recently. On way out I advised the screener before the walk through and he had me go around and wait for about 5 minutes for the agent who does the pat down. It was okay but I was glad I wasn't late for flight. Also my shoes etc. had gone on the belt and I couldnt see my belongings.

Coming back, I decided to follow the advice of manufacturer of PM and go through the metal detector without showing the card. Went right through with no problem. I just made sure that I had removed watch belt buckle and cell phone and put them in my carry on.
From now on I am going to use this method.
