Medical Tourism...

I noticed that the New York Times has an article about Medical Tourism to India.

They suggest that by 2010, 6 million Americans will be getting medical care overseas.

After reading and responding to pushpas' post about cost of American cardiac care, it seems very timely to make a post about Medical Tourism.

Pacemaker availability

by Elke - 2008-11-22 01:11:56

I mentioned before that my husband and I are moving to Germany next April. I'm going back to my hometown, mostly because of our health care system.
I was concerned though that my pacemaker ( St. Jude's pacesetter) would not be available . So I called st. Jude's and talked to the folks to ease my mind. I was told that most pacemakers have "international" leads and any pacemaker can be implanted to fit them. They also gave me a list of pacemaker clinics in my area to go to.But it turns out that St. Jude's pacemakers are produced in Sweden, not in the US as I thought. Oh well, what do I know:-)-So if you are seriously considering having a new pacemaker or a replacement overseas, you can do your homework far ahead of time by calling your manufacturer.-by the way..my pacemaker surgery was 85,000 and even without insurance it cost only 15,000 in Europe, including a 1 week hospital stay and follow-up.

The article in our local paper talked about it to, said as soon as next year some insurance compaines might be paying for some procedures they sighted knee and hip replacement surgeries which over here are from 50000 to 85000 according to the paper it is being done over there from8500 to 10000. Maybe I can go to Thialand for a medical vacation and get stem cells.

Stem cells.....

If you need stem cells, check out Canada first.

There is a lot of research being brought to trials in the near future.....not certain when.....in the Toronto area.

Google words like 'research, Toronto, MARS centre and stem cells' to find anything available.

I haven't done it yet and cannot 'edit' my post.

Good luck dave.

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
